    Towards a style-specific basis for computational beat tracking

    Outlined in this paper are a number of sources of evidence, from psychological, ethnomusicological and engineering grounds, to suggest that current approaches to computational beat tracking are incomplete. It is contended that the degree to which cultural knowledge, that is, the specifics of style and associated learnt representational schema, underlie the human faculty of beat tracking has been severely underestimated. Difficulties in building general beat tracking solutions, which can provide both period and phase locking across a large corpus of styles, are highlighted.     Time-frequency analysis on gong timor music using short-time fourier transform and continuous wavelet transform

    Time-Frequency Analysis on Gong Timor Music has an important role in the application of signal-processing music such as tone tracking and music transcription or music signal notation. Some of Gong characters is heard by different ways of forcing Gong himself, such as how to play Gong based on the Player’s senses, a set of Gong, and by changing the tempo of Gong instruments. Gong's musical signals have more complex analytical criteria than Western music instrument analysis. This research uses a Gong instrument and two notations; frequency analysis of Gong music frequency compared by the Short-time Fourier Transform (STFT), Overlap Short-time Fourier Transform (OSTFT), and Continuous Wavelet Transform (CWT) method. In the STFT and OSTFT methods, time-frequency analysis Gong music is used with different windows and hop size while CWT method uses Morlet wavelet. The results show that the CWT is better than the STFT methods

    Music tempo estimation using sub-band synchrony

    Tempo estimation aims at estimating the pace of a musical piece measured in beats per minute. This paper presents a new tempo estimation method that utilizes coherent energy changes across multiple frequency sub-bands to identify the onsets. A new measure, called the sub-band synchrony, is proposed to detect and quantify the coherent amplitude changes across multiple sub-bands. Given a musical piece, our method first detects the onsets using the sub-band synchrony measure. The periodicity of the resulting onset curve, measured using the autocorrelation function, is used to estimate the tempo value. The performance of the sub-band synchrony based tempo estimation method is evaluated on two music databases. Experimental results indicate a reasonable improvement in performance when compared to conventional methods of tempo estimation

    A VLSI DSP DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF COMB FILTER USING UN-FOLDING METHODOLOGY

    In signal processing, a comb filter adds a delayed version of a signal to itself, causing constructive and destructive interference. Comb filters are used in a variety of signal processing applications that is Cascaded Integrator-Comb filters, Audio effects, including echo, flanging, and digital waveguide synthesis and various other applications. Comb filter when implemented has lower through-put as the sample period can not be achieved equal to the iteration bound because node computation time of comb filter is larger than the iteration bound. Hence throughput remains less. This paper present the comb filter using one of the methodology needed to design custom or semi custom VLSI circuits named as Un-Folding which increases the throughput of the comb filter. Un-Folding is a transformation technique that can be applied to a DSP program to create a new program describing more than one iteration of the original program. It can unravel hidden con-currency in digital signal processing systems described by DFGs.
