An Overview of the Issue of Dog Aggression, Dog Bites and Social Policy
NOTE: Segments of the report below have already been published as part of the Tufts Center for Animals and Public Policy report on the pit bull terrier issue in 1988 titled Dog Aggression and the Pit Bull Terrier, edited by A. N. Rowan. The report was developed out of a workshop held at Tufts School of Veterinary Medicine on July 17, 1986. The workshop was developed after Dean Franklin M Loew suggested in June of 1986, that the Tufts Center for Animals should organize a workshop to explore the growing furore over âpit bull terriers.â The city of Lynn in Massachusetts had recently passed an ordinance restricting pit bull ownership and other cities and municipalities were considering similar legislation. Breed-specific legislation has seldom been reported to have been accompanied by a reduction in dog bites. Those individuals who want to have an aggressive dog simply switch to another breed (in Lynn, a local veterinarian reported that the number of pit bull terriers in his practice fell but the number of rottweilers increased to take the place of the pit bull terriers

Anomalies in field theories with extra dimensions
We give an overview of the issue of anomalies in field theories with extra
dimensions. We start by reviewing in a pedagogical way the computation of the
standard perturbative gauge and gravitational anomalies on non-compact spaces,
using Fujikawa's approach and functional integral methods, and discuss the
available mechanisms for their cancellation. We then generalize these analyses
to the case of orbifold field theories with compact internal dimensions,
emphasizing the new aspects related to the presence of orbifold singularities
and discrete Wilson lines, and the new cancellation mechanisms that are
becoming available. We conclude with a very brief discussion on global and
parity anomalies.Comment: Review article written for Int.J.Mod.Phys. A, 63 pages; v2: mistake

Exploring the Impact of Immigrants\u27 Views of Public Sentiment
Immigration is an issue that has become increasingly important in American society. An understanding of the issue of immigration, as well as the various issues related to it, is essential in the social work profession. It is apparent through recent changes in national immigration policies that the âpathway to citizenshipâ is becoming increasingly difficult. The literature reveals that public sentiment about immigration strongly influences the development of these policies. In addition to the influence that public sentiment has on policy-making, it is equally important to understand the ways in which public sentiment impacts immigrantsâ perceptions of themselves. This research study provides an overview of the issue of immigration, with a specific focus on the internalization of immigrantsâ perceptions of public sentiment. The researcher hypothesized a relationship between immigrantsâ views of public sentiment and the ways in which they view themselves. Seventeen immigrants from six different countries participated in this exploratory study. Data was analyzed by comparing participantsâ responses to questions about perceived feelings of Americans with responses to questions about their views of themselves. The results did not support the hypothesized relationship. The research study demonstrates the need for social workers to increase their knowledge about the issue of immigration, as well as their awareness of the influence of public sentiment
Dog Aggression and the Pit Bull Terrier
The Proceedings of the workshop includes an overview of the issue of dog bites and the relative importance of the pit bull terrier as of the summer of 1986 as well as contributions by Dr Randall Lockwood and Kate Rindy of the Humane Society of the U.S., Dr Amy Marder (a veterinary behaviorist at Tufts Veterinary School), Janis Schroeder, a canine control officer from Connecticut, Joseph Weil, an attorney from Florida and David Sholes, a Rhode Island Senator involved in passing a vicious dog law in the state, and a guidance document on dangerous dogs being distributed in 1986 by the Humane Society of the United States
