Autonomic Cloud Computing: Open Challenges and Architectural Elements
As Clouds are complex, large-scale, and heterogeneous distributed systems,
management of their resources is a challenging task. They need automated and
integrated intelligent strategies for provisioning of resources to offer
services that are secure, reliable, and cost-efficient. Hence, effective
management of services becomes fundamental in software platforms that
constitute the fabric of computing Clouds. In this direction, this paper
identifies open issues in autonomic resource provisioning and presents
innovative management techniques for supporting SaaS applications hosted on
Clouds. We present a conceptual architecture and early results evidencing the
benefits of autonomic management of Clouds.Comment: 8 pages, 6 figures, conference keynote pape

Artificial Intelligence in Radiotherapy Treatment Planning: Present and Future.
Treatment planning is an essential step of the radiotherapy workflow. It has become more sophisticated over the past couple of decades with the help of computer science, enabling planners to design highly complex radiotherapy plans to minimize the normal tissue damage while persevering sufficient tumor control. As a result, treatment planning has become more labor intensive, requiring hours or even days of planner effort to optimize an individual patient case in a trial-and-error fashion. More recently, artificial intelligence has been utilized to automate and improve various aspects of medical science. For radiotherapy treatment planning, many algorithms have been developed to better support planners. These algorithms focus on automating the planning process and/or optimizing dosimetric trade-offs, and they have already made great impact on improving treatment planning efficiency and plan quality consistency. In this review, the smart planning tools in current clinical use are summarized in 3 main categories: automated rule implementation and reasoning, modeling of prior knowledge in clinical practice, and multicriteria optimization. Novel artificial intelligence-based treatment planning applications, such as deep learning-based algorithms and emerging research directions, are also reviewed. Finally, the challenges of artificial intelligence-based treatment planning are discussed for future works
Business Process Configuration According to Data Dependency Specification
Configuration techniques have been used in several fields, such as the design of business
process models. Sometimes these models depend on the data dependencies, being easier to describe
what has to be done instead of how. Configuration models enable to use a declarative representation
of business processes, deciding the most appropriate work-flow in each case. Unfortunately,
data dependencies among the activities and how they can affect the correct execution of the process,
has been overlooked in the declarative specifications and configurable systems found in the literature.
In order to find the best process configuration for optimizing the execution time of processes according
to data dependencies, we propose the use of Constraint Programming paradigm with the aim of
obtaining an adaptable imperative model in function of the data dependencies of the activities
described declarative.Ministerio de Ciencia y TecnologĂa TIN2015-63502-C3-2-RFondo Europeo de Desarrollo Regiona
