Decentralized Dynamic Hop Selection and Power Control in Cognitive Multi-hop Relay Systems
In this paper, we consider a cognitive multi-hop relay secondary user (SU)
system sharing the spectrum with some primary users (PU). The transmit power as
well as the hop selection of the cognitive relays can be dynamically adapted
according to the local (and causal) knowledge of the instantaneous channel
state information (CSI) in the multi-hop SU system. We shall determine a low
complexity, decentralized algorithm to maximize the average end-to-end
throughput of the SU system with dynamic spatial reuse. The problem is
challenging due to the decentralized requirement as well as the causality
constraint on the knowledge of CSI. Furthermore, the problem belongs to the
class of stochastic Network Utility Maximization (NUM) problems which is quite
challenging. We exploit the time-scale difference between the PU activity and
the CSI fluctuations and decompose the problem into a master problem and
subproblems. We derive an asymptotically optimal low complexity solution using
divide-and-conquer and illustrate that significant performance gain can be
obtained through dynamic hop selection and power control. The worst case
complexity and memory requirement of the proposed algorithm is O(M^2) and
O(M^3) respectively, where is the number of SUs
Analyzing Energy-efficiency and Route-selection of Multi-level Hierarchal Routing Protocols in WSNs
The advent and development in the field of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) in
recent years has seen the growth of extremely small and low-cost sensors that
possess sensing, signal processing and wireless communication capabilities.
These sensors can be expended at a much lower cost and are capable of detecting
conditions such as temperature, sound, security or any other system. A good
protocol design should be able to scale well both in energy heterogeneous and
homogeneous environment, meet the demands of different application scenarios
and guarantee reliability. On this basis, we have compared six different
protocols of different scenarios which are presenting their own schemes of
energy minimizing, clustering and route selection in order to have more
effective communication. This research is motivated to have an insight that
which of the under consideration protocols suit well in which application and
can be a guide-line for the design of a more robust and efficient protocol.

Multi-hop Cooperative Relaying for Energy Efficient In Vivo Communications
This paper investigates cooperative relaying to support energy efficient in vivo communications. In such a network, the in vivo source nodes transmit their sensing information to an on-body destination node either via direct communications or by employing on-body cooperative relay nodes in order to promote energy efficiency. Two relay modes are investigated, namely single-hop and multi-hop (two-hop) relaying. In this context, the paper objective is to select the optimal transmission mode (direct, single-hop, or two-hop relaying) and relay assignment (if cooperative relaying is adopted) for each source node that results in the minimum per bit average energy consumption for the in vivo network. The problem is formulated as a binary program that can be efficiently solved using commercial optimization solvers. Numerical results demonstrate the significant improvement in energy consumption and quality-of-service (QoS) support when multi-hop communication is adopted
From carbon nanotubes and silicate layers to graphene platelets for polymer nanocomposites
In spite of extensive studies conducted on carbon nanotubes and silicate layers for their polymer-based nanocomposites, the rise of graphene now provides a more promising candidate due to its exceptionally high mechanical performance and electrical and thermal conductivities. The present study developed a facile approach to fabricate epoxy–graphene nanocomposites by thermally expanding a commercial product followed by ultrasonication and solution-compounding with epoxy, and investigated their morphologies, mechanical properties, electrical conductivity and thermal mechanical behaviour. Cooperative Symbol-Based Signaling for Networks with Multiple Relays
Wireless channels suffer from severe inherent impairments and hence
reliable and high data rate wireless transmission is particularly challenging to
achieve. Fortunately, using multiple antennae improves performance in wireless
transmission by providing space diversity, spatial multiplexing, and power gains.
However, in wireless ad-hoc networks multiple antennae may not be acceptable
due to limitations in size, cost, and hardware complexity. As a result, cooperative
relaying strategies have attracted considerable attention because of their abilities
to take advantage of multi-antenna by using multiple single-antenna relays.
This study is to explore cooperative signaling for different relay networks,
such as multi-hop relay networks formed by multiple single-antenna relays and
multi-stage relay networks formed by multiple relaying stages with each stage
holding several single-antenna relays. The main contribution of this study is the
development of a new relaying scheme for networks using symbol-level
modulation, such as binary phase shift keying (BPSK) and quadrature phase shift
keying (QPSK). We also analyze effects of this newly developed scheme when it
is used with space-time coding in a multi-stage relay network. Simulation results
demonstrate that the new scheme outperforms previously proposed schemes:
amplify-and-forward (AF) scheme and decode-and-forward (DF) scheme
