Security for Grid Services
Grid computing is concerned with the sharing and coordinated use of diverse
resources in distributed "virtual organizations." The dynamic and
multi-institutional nature of these environments introduces challenging
security issues that demand new technical approaches. In particular, one must
deal with diverse local mechanisms, support dynamic creation of services, and
enable dynamic creation of trust domains. We describe how these issues are
addressed in two generations of the Globus Toolkit. First, we review the Globus
Toolkit version 2 (GT2) approach; then, we describe new approaches developed to
support the Globus Toolkit version 3 (GT3) implementation of the Open Grid
Services Architecture, an initiative that is recasting Grid concepts within a
service oriented framework based on Web services. GT3's security implementation
uses Web services security mechanisms for credential exchange and other
purposes, and introduces a tight least-privilege model that avoids the need for

Service-oriented Approach Supporting Dynamic Manufacturing Networks Operations
[EN] In the current economic crisis, also the manufacturing sector is asked to evolve towards more dynamic organizational structures within which, composing manufacturing processes, almost in real time, will become a need. This work aims at introducing flexibility and dynamisms to current manufacturing processes by separating its tasks from its final performers. With the proposed approach, the performers replacement can be done almost seamlessly. Additionally, the approach shows how dynamic negotiation and contracting, either for a whole process or a single activity, can be smoother if the task specification is based on a standard service interface defined at the ecosystem level. Modeling Virtual Organization Architecture with the Virtual Organization Breeding Methodology
While Enterprise Architecture Modeling (EAM) methodologies become more and
more popular, an EAM methodology tailored to the needs of virtual organizations
(VO) is still to be developed. Among the most popular EAM methodologies, TOGAF
has been chosen as the basis for a new EAM methodology taking into account
characteristics of VOs presented in this paper. In this new methodology,
referred as Virtual Organization Breeding Methodology (VOBM), concepts
developed within the ECOLEAD project, e.g. the concept of Virtual Breeding
Environment (VBE) or the VO creation schema, serve as fundamental elements for
development of VOBM. VOBM is a generic methodology that should be adapted to a
given VBE. VOBM defines the structure of VBE and VO architectures in a
service-oriented environment, as well as an architecture development method for
virtual organizations (ADM4VO). Finally, a preliminary set of tools and methods

Automated tools and techniques for distributed Grid Software: Development of the testbed infrastructure
Grid technology is becoming more and more important as the new paradigm for sharing computational resources across different organizations in a secure way. The great powerfulness of this solution, requires the definition of a generic stack of services and protocols and this is the scope of the different Grid initiatives. As a result of international collaborations for its development, the Open Grid Forum created the Open Grid Services Architecture (OGSA) which aims to define the common set of services that will enable interoperability across the different implementations. This master thesis has been developed in this framework, as part of the two European-funded projects ETICS and OMII-Europe. The main objective is to contribute to the design and maintenance of large distributed development projects with the automated tool that enables to implement Software Engineering techniques oriented to achieve an acceptable level of quality at the release process. Specifically, this thesis develops the testbed concept as the virtual production-like scenario where to perform compliance tests. As proof of concept, the OGSA Basic Execution Service has been chosen in order to implement and execute conformance tests within the ETICS automated testbed framework
Agile and Pro-Active Public Administration as a Collaborative Networked Organization
In highly competitive, globalized economies and societies of always-on-line
people intensively using the Internet and mobile phones, public administrations
have to adapt to new challenges. Enterprises and citizens expect public
administrations to be agile and pro-active to foster development. A way to
achieve agility and pro-activity is application of a model of Collaborative
Network Organizations in its two forms: Virtual Organizations (VO) and Virtual
Organization Breeding Environments (VOBE). In the paper, advantages are shown
of public administration playing a role of a Virtual Organization customer on
the one hand, and a Virtual Organization member on the other hand. It is also
shown how public administration playing a role of a Virtual Organization
Breeding Environment may improve its agility and promote advanced technologies
and management methods among local organizations. It is argued in the paper
that public administration should provide a Virtual Organization Breeding
