Abstract β€” In this paper, we address the management of sensor faults in an intelligent environment. Our proposed approach aims to introduce self-healing as a method of fault management. This approach is based on the use of adaptive finite state machine automata which handle suspicious sensor behavior. These state machines communicate with a mobile robot which investigates the error states detected through the sensors in the environment in order to learn from the anomalies and adapt to the changes in sensor behaviors. Additionally, we have determined that two types of fault may arise: systemic faults which the system may learn from and adapt to, and random faults which the system may compensate for through the use of a mobile robot as a sensor substitute. Keywords-fault tolerance; self-healing; sensor substitution; intelligent environment. I
