This paper will try to describe the close relationship between the economic evolution and technology, especially how the technical aspects of debit/credit cards interact with the economical aspects. There are approached concepts related to smart card and especially the use of cards in different economic purposes. Since the introduction of the first cards there has been an accelerated growth of the use of smart cards. One of the essential growth factors has been the progress in the electronic industry and the accelerated development of the software companies, which allowed the emergence of interactive financial services such as e-banking, mobile banking, smart cards being considered the access key to these modern services.Smart cards, credit cards, debit cards, card market in Romania, card payments

Security of electronic health records in a resource limited setting: The case of smart-care electronic health record in Zambia

This paper presents a case study of security issues related to the operationalization of smart-care, an electronic medical record (EMR) used to manage Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) health information in Zambia. The aim of the smart-care program is to link up services and improve access to health information, by providing a reliable way to collect, store, retrieve and analyse health data in a secure way. As health professionals gain improved access to patient health information electronically, there is need to ensure this information is secured, and that patient privacy and confidentiality is maintained. During the initial stages of the program there were security and confidentiality concerns arising from lost cards and unlimited access by clinical staff. However, the introduction of pin numbers for patient cards and clinical staff access cards with passwords helped address some of the concerns. Nonetheless, public health information technologists still advocate for security that provides more reliable measures that protect devices, networks, transmission, and applications. Since its inception in 2004, Smart-care has expanded to integrate more than 500 health facilities by the end of 2009. In rural and remote locations without internet, smart cards and mobile devices such as laptops are used to transfer data for onward merging with the national database

    Sustainable revenue management

The introduction of public transport smart cards means it is now possible to forecast how behavioural change stimulators, such as time-variable pricing, will impact passenger activity. This is an invaluable tool for managing revenue in a sustainable way, not just in the public transport sector, but also for every industry constrained by peak-loading capacity

Ethereum blockchain as a decentralized and autonomous key server: storing and extracting public keys through smart contracts

    Get PDF
Ethereum is an open-source, public, blockchain-based distributed computing platform featuring smart contract functionality. It provides a decentralized Turing-complete virtual machine which can execute scripts using an international network of public nodes. The purpose of this thesis is to build a decentralized and autonomous key server using Ethereum smart contracts to store and retrieve information. We did an overall introduction of Bitcoin and Ethereum to provide a background of the study. We then analyzed the current problems of key discovery with traditional servers and web-of-trust. We designed, built and tested an application that can verify contact cards (email address, PGP public key, domain address, Facebook account), link them to an Ethereum address and store them on a public contract running on the Ethereum blockchain. Finally we made an analysis of the costs and limitations of such solution and proposed some future improvements. The results show that Ethereum is a good choice for storing public keys, thanks to the immutability and irreversibility of the blockchain

-Technology to pass the immigration authorities that serve cross-border (PLB) for ease in knowing every passer identity and reduce violations that occur as LocalBorderLinePass abuse at the border. The technology will be useful to assess the immigration authorities in the past the border to make it easier and safer in comparison to manually security, then the method of analysis with a specific purpose to be very necessary. One of the technology is to use limit LocalBorderLinePass identity identification in the form of a smart card with a face pattern recognition in this study using eigenface methods in the face passer, On the problem of this research is based on studies or previous research in general use manual methods which only make use of manual records the identity of citizens, but in this study will try to apply the facial pattern recognition methods on cross-border pass safer and efesiens. The process of smart cards in this study will use the data in the new citizens take dar in 2012 and 2013, where the data will be process further by using a smart card and facial pattern recognition. If the result of the introduction of identity have found it to be determined pattern of trend data that can answer the problem to pass traffic in an efficient strategy

The introduction of smart cards in the Austrian public sector has been discussed since the late 1980s. Public organisations including the national health insurance institute and the national citizen registration office are in the conceptual phase of the introduction. One of the pilot projects was the roll-out of the multifunctional student ID card to the students of the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration (WU Vienna) in autumn 2000. To assess the pilot and to gain insight into further projects, it is necessary to investigate the students’ point of view and their acceptance of the WU smart card. Furthermore it would be interesting to gain knowledge about the integration of further functionalities such as payment services or health insurance data. In this paper, which is a co-operation of three departments at the WU Vienna, we want to give a report on the current status of the research project focused on investigating the issues affecting the introduction of new functionalities of the multifunctional student ID card at the WU Vienna. While the research reported here is still at an early stage of analysis, we have already gained significant findings on students’ attitude towards usage of current as well as of potential extended functionalities of the student ID card. The main focus of our research is to gain knowledge about the general students’ acceptance. The data collection was carried out through an online questionnaire and the data analysis was based on a sample of 417 students. Evaluating the findings of the first phase of our research project, we have been able to draw implications for the next stage of our investigation
