    INTEGRATED APPROACH OF SCHEDULING A FLEXIBLE JOB SHOP USING ENHANCED FIREFLY AND HYBRID FLOWER POLLINATION ALGORITHMS

    Manufacturing industries are undergoing tremendous transformation due to Industry 4.0. Flexibility, consumer demands, product customization, high product quality, and reduced delivery times are mandatory for the survival of a manufacturing plant, for which scheduling plays a major role. A job shop problem modified with flexibility is called flexible job shop scheduling. It is an integral part of smart manufacturing. This study aims to optimize scheduling using an integrated approach, where assigning machines and their routing are concurrently performed. Two hybrid methods have been proposed: 1) The Hybrid Adaptive Firefly Algorithm (HAdFA) and 2) Hybrid Flower Pollination Algorithm (HFPA). To address the premature convergence problem inherent in the classic firefly algorithm, the proposed HAdFA employs two novel adaptive strategies: employing an adaptive randomization parameter (α), which dynamically modifies at each step, and Gray relational analysis updates firefly at each step, thereby maintaining a balance between diversification and intensification. HFPA is inspired by the pollination strategy of flowers. Additionally, both HAdFA and HFPA are incorporated with a local search technique of enhanced simulated annealing to accelerate the algorithm and prevent local optima entrapment. Tests on standard benchmark cases have been performed to demonstrate the proposed algorithm’s efficacy. The proposed HAdFA surpasses the performance of the HFPA and other metaheuristics found in the literature. A case study was conducted to further authenticate the efficiency of our algorithm. Our algorithm significantly improves convergence speed and enables the exploration of a large number of rich optimal solutions.

    A Comprehensive Review of Recent Variants and Modifications of Firefly Algorithm

    Swarm intelligence (SI) is an emerging field of biologically-inspired artificial intelligence based on the behavioral models of social insects such as ants, bees, wasps, termites etc. Swarm intelligence is the discipline that deals with natural and artificial systems composed of many individuals that coordinate using decentralized control and self-organization. Most SI algorithms have been developed to address stationary optimization problems and hence, they can converge on the (near-) optimum solution efficiently. However, many real-world problems have a dynamic environment that changes over time. In the last two decades, there has been a growing interest of addressing Dynamic Optimization Problems using SI algorithms due to their adaptation capabilities. This paper presents a broad review on two SI algorithms: 1) Firefly Algorithm (FA) 2) Flower Pollination Algorithm (FPA). FA is inspired from bioluminescence characteristic of fireflies. FPA is inspired from the the pollination behavior of flowering plants. This article aims to give a detailed analysis of different variants of FA and FPA developed by parameter adaptations, modification, hybridization as on date. This paper also addresses the applications of these algorithms in various fields. In addition, literatures found that most of the cases that used FA and FPA technique have outperformed compare to other metaheuristic algorithms

APA is commonly identified as a method that can enhance accuracy, efficiency and consistency as well as providing instant feedback on students’ programming solutions. In achieving APA, test data generation process is very important so as to perform a dynamic testing on students’ assignment. In software testing field, many researches that focus on test data generation have demonstrated the successful of adoption of Meta-Heuristic Search Techniques (MHST) so as to enhance the procedure of deriving adequate test data for efficient testing. Nonetheless, thus far the researches on APA have not yet usefully exploited the techniques accordingly to include a better quality program testing coverage. Therefore, this study has conducted a comparative evaluation to identify any applicable MHST to support efficient Automated Test Data Generation (ATDG) in executing a dynamic-functional testing in APA. Several recent MHST are included in the comparative evaluation combining both the local and global search algorithms ranging from the year of 2000 until 2018. Result of this study suggests that the hybridization of Cuckoo Search with Tabu Search and lévy flight as one of promising MHST to be applied, as it’s outperforms other MHST with regards to number of iterations and range of inputs

    Flower pollination algorithm with pollinator attraction

    The Flower Pollination Algorithm (FPA) is a highly efficient optimization algorithm that is inspired by the evolution process of flowering plants. In the present study, a modified version of FPA is proposed accounting for an additional feature of flower pollination in nature that is the so-called pollinator attraction. Pollinator attraction represents the natural tendency of flower species to evolve in order to attract pollinators by using their colour, shape and scent as well as nutritious rewards. To reflect this evolution mechanism, the proposed FPA variant with Pollinator Attraction (FPAPA) provides fitter flowers of the population with higher probabilities of achieving pollen transfer via biotic pollination than other flowers. FPAPA is tested against a set of 28 benchmark mathematical functions, defined in IEEE-CEC’13 for real-parameter single-objective optimization problems, as well as structural optimization problems. Numerical experiments show that the modified FPA represents a statistically significant improvement upon the original FPA and that it can outperform other state-of-the-art optimization algorithms offering better and more robust optimal solutions. Additional research is suggested to combine FPAPA with other modified and hybridized versions of FPA to further increase its performance in challenging optimization problems

    Bio-Inspired Strategies for Optimizing Radiation Therapy under Uncertainties

    Radiation therapy is a critical component of cancer treatment. However, the delivery of radiation poses inherent challenges, particularly in minimizing radiation exposure to healthy organs surrounding the tumor site. One significant contributing factor to this challenge is the patient's respiration, which introduces uncertainties in the precise targeting of radiation. Managing these uncertainties during radiotherapy is essential to ensure effective tumor treatment while minimizing the adverse effects on healthy tissues. This research addresses the crucial objective of achieving a balanced dose distribution during radiation therapy under conditions of respiration uncertainty. To tackle this issue, we begin by developing a motion uncertainty model employing probability density functions that characterize breathing motion patterns. This model forms the foundation for our efforts to optimize radiation dose delivery. Next, we employ three bio-inspired optimization techniques: Cuckoo search optimization (CSO), flower pollination algorithm (FPA), and bat search Optimization (BSO). Our research evaluates the dose distribution in Gy on both the tumor and healthy organs by applying these bio-inspired optimization methods to identify the most effective approach. This research ultimately aids in refining the strategies used in radiation therapy planning under the challenging conditions posed by respiration uncertainty. Through the application of bio-inspired optimization techniques and a comprehensive evaluation of dose distribution, we seek to improve the precision and safety of radiation therapy, thereby advancing cancer treatment outcomes

    Performance Comparison of Several Control Algorithms for Tracking Control of Pantograph Mechanism

    A sort of parallel manipulator known as a pantograph robot mechanism was created primarily for industrial requests that required high precision and satisfied speed. While tracking a chosen trajectory profile requires a powerful controller. Because it has four active robot links and one robot passive link in place of just two links like the open chain does, it can carry more loads than the open chain robot mechanism while maintaining accuracy and stability. The calculated model for a closed chain pantograph robot mechanism presented in this paper takes into account the boundary conditions. For the purpose of simulating the dynamics of the pantograph robot mechanism, an entire MATLAB Simulink has been created. The related Simscape model had been created to verify the pantograph mathematical model that had been provided. Five alternative tracking controllers were also created and improved using the Flower Pollination (FP) algorithm. The PID controller, which is used in many engineering applications, is the first control. An enriched Fractional Order PID (FOPID) controller is the second control. The third control considers an improved Nonlinear conventional PID (NLPID) controller, and the parameters for this controller were likewise determined using (FP) optimization using the useful objective function. Model Reference Adaptive Control (MRAC) with PID Compensator is the fourth control. The Fuzzy PD+I Control is the last and final controller. A comparison of the different control methods was completed. A rectangular trajectory was chosen as the end effector of the pantograph robot\u27s position reference because it displays performance during sharp edges and provides a more accurate study. The proposed controllers were used for this task to analyse the performance. The outcomes demonstrate that the Fuzzy PD+I control outperforms the PID, FOPID, NLPID, and MRAC with PID Compensator controllers in terms of performance. In the case of the Fuzzy PD+I control, the angles end effector has a lower rise time, a satisfied settling time, and low overshoot with good precision
