OBOME - Ontology based opinion mining in UBIPOL
Ontologies have a special role in the UBIPOL system, they help to structure the policy related context, provide conceptualization for policy domain and use in the opinion mining process. In this work we presented a system called Ontology Based Opinion Mining Engine (OBOME) for analyzing a domain-specific opinion corpus by first assisting the user with the creation of a domain ontology from the corpus. We determined the polarity of opinion on the various domain aspects. In the former step, the policy domain aspect has are identified (namely which policy category is represented by the concept). This identification is supported by the policy modelling ontology, which describe the most important policy – related classes and structure. Then the most informative documents from the corpus are extracted and asked the user to create a set of aspects and related keywords using these documents. In the latter step, we used the corpus specific ontology to model the domain and extracted aspect-polarity associations using grammatical dependencies between words. Later, summarized results are shown to the user to analyze and store. Finally, in an offline process policy modeling ontology is updated
How to Ask for Technical Help? Evidence-based Guidelines for Writing Questions on Stack Overflow
Context: The success of Stack Overflow and other community-based
question-and-answer (Q&A) sites depends mainly on the will of their members to
answer others' questions. In fact, when formulating requests on Q&A sites, we
are not simply seeking for information. Instead, we are also asking for other
people's help and feedback. Understanding the dynamics of the participation in
Q&A communities is essential to improve the value of crowdsourced knowledge.
Objective: In this paper, we investigate how information seekers can increase
the chance of eliciting a successful answer to their questions on Stack
Overflow by focusing on the following actionable factors: affect, presentation
quality, and time.
Method: We develop a conceptual framework of factors potentially influencing
the success of questions in Stack Overflow. We quantitatively analyze a set of
over 87K questions from the official Stack Overflow dump to assess the impact
of actionable factors on the success of technical requests. The information
seeker reputation is included as a control factor. Furthermore, to understand
the role played by affective states in the success of questions, we
qualitatively analyze questions containing positive and negative emotions.
Finally, a survey is conducted to understand how Stack Overflow users perceive
the guideline suggestions for writing questions.
Results: We found that regardless of user reputation, successful questions
are short, contain code snippets, and do not abuse with uppercase characters.
As regards affect, successful questions adopt a neutral emotional style.
Conclusion: We provide evidence-based guidelines for writing effective
questions on Stack Overflow that software engineers can follow to increase the
chance of getting technical help. As for the role of affect, we empirically
confirmed community guidelines that suggest avoiding rudeness in question

Sentiment analytics: Lexicons construction and analysis
With the increasing amount of text data, sentiment analysis (SA) is becoming more and more important. An automated approach is needed to parse the online reviews and comments, and analyze their sentiments. Since lexicon is the most important component in SA, enhancing the quality of lexicons will improve the efficiency and accuracy of sentiment analysis. In this research, the effect of coupling a general lexicon with a specialized lexicon (for a specific domain) and its impact on sentiment analysis was presented. Two special domains and one general domain were studied. The two special domains are the petroleum domain and the biology domain. The general domain is the social network domain. The specialized lexicon for the petroleum domain was created as part of this research. The results, as expected, show that coupling a general lexicon with a specialized lexicon improves the sentiment analysis. Econometrics meets sentiment : an overview of methodology and applications
The advent of massive amounts of textual, audio, and visual data has spurred the development of econometric methodology to transform qualitative sentiment data into quantitative sentiment variables, and to use those variables in an econometric analysis of the relationships between sentiment and other variables. We survey this emerging research field and refer to it as sentometrics, which is a portmanteau of sentiment and econometrics. We provide a synthesis of the relevant methodological approaches, illustrate with empirical results, and discuss useful software
A review of sentiment analysis research in Arabic language
Sentiment analysis is a task of natural language processing which has
recently attracted increasing attention. However, sentiment analysis research
has mainly been carried out for the English language. Although Arabic is
ramping up as one of the most used languages on the Internet, only a few
studies have focused on Arabic sentiment analysis so far. In this paper, we
carry out an in-depth qualitative study of the most important research works in
this context by presenting limits and strengths of existing approaches. In
particular, we survey both approaches that leverage machine translation or
transfer learning to adapt English resources to Arabic and approaches that stem
directly from the Arabic language
