    Web Site Personalization based on Link Analysis and Navigational Patterns

    The continuous growth in the size and use of the World Wide Web imposes new methods of design and development of on-line information services. The need for predicting the users’ needs in order to improve the usability and user retention of a web site is more than evident and can be addressed by personalizing it. Recommendation algorithms aim at proposing “next” pages to users based on their current visit and the past users’ navigational patterns. In the vast majority of related algorithms, however, only the usage data are used to produce recommendations, disregarding the structural properties of the web graph. Thus important – in terms of PageRank authority score – pages may be underrated. In this work we present UPR, a PageRank-style algorithm which combines usage data and link analysis techniques for assigning probabilities to the web pages based on their importance in the web site’s navigational graph. We propose the application of a localized version of UPR (l-UPR) to personalized navigational sub-graphs for online web page ranking and recommendation. Moreover, we propose a hybrid probabilistic predictive model based on Markov models and link analysis for assigning prior probabilities in a hybrid probabilistic model. We prove, through experimentation, that this approach results in more objective and representative predictions than the ones produced from the pure usage-based approaches

    A comparative study of the AHP and TOPSIS methods for implementing load shedding scheme in a pulp mill system

    The advancement of technology had encouraged mankind to design and create useful equipment and devices. These equipment enable users to fully utilize them in various applications. Pulp mill is one of the heavy industries that consumes large amount of electricity in its production. Due to this, any malfunction of the equipment might cause mass losses to the company. In particular, the breakdown of the generator would cause other generators to be overloaded. In the meantime, the subsequence loads will be shed until the generators are sufficient to provide the power to other loads. Once the fault had been fixed, the load shedding scheme can be deactivated. Thus, load shedding scheme is the best way in handling such condition. Selected load will be shed under this scheme in order to protect the generators from being damaged. Multi Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) can be applied in determination of the load shedding scheme in the electric power system. In this thesis two methods which are Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) were introduced and applied. From this thesis, a series of analyses are conducted and the results are determined. Among these two methods which are AHP and TOPSIS, the results shown that TOPSIS is the best Multi criteria Decision Making (MCDM) for load shedding scheme in the pulp mill system. TOPSIS is the most effective solution because of the highest percentage effectiveness of load shedding between these two methods. The results of the AHP and TOPSIS analysis to the pulp mill system are very promising

    From its appearance until nowadays, the internet saw a spectacular growth not only in terms of websites number and information volume, but also in terms of the number of visitors. Therefore, the need of an overall analysis regarding both the web sites and the content provided by them was required. Thus, a new branch of research was developed, namely web mining, that aims to discover useful information and knowledge, based not only on the analysis of websites and content, but also on the way in which the users interact with them. The aim of the present paper is to design a database that captures only the relevant data from logs in a way that will allow to store and manage large sets of temporal data with common tools in real time. In our work, we rely on different web sites or website sections with known architecture and we test several hypotheses from the literature in order to extend the framework to sites with unknown or chaotic structure, which are non-transparent in determining the type of visited pages.     Web personalization is the process of customizing a Web site to the needs of specific users, taking advantage of the knowledge acquired from the analysis of the user\u27s navigational behavior (usage data) in correlation with other information collected in the Web context, namely, structure, content, and user profile data. Due to the explosive growth of the Web, the domain of Web personalization has gained great momentum both in the research and commercial areas. In this article we present a survey of the use of Web mining for Web personalization. More specifically, we introduce the modules that comprise a Web personalization system, emphasizing the Web usage mining module. A review of the most common methods that are used as well as technical issues that occur is given, along with a brief overview of the most popular tools and applications available from software vendors.     Web Page Recommendation Approach Using Weighted Sequential Patterns And Markov Model

    Web page recommendation aims to predict the user2019;s navigation through the help of web usage mining techniques. Currently, researchers focus their attention to develop a web page recommendation algorithm using the well known pattern mining techniques. Here, we have presented a web page recommendation algorithm using weighted sequential patterns and markov model. To mine the weighted sequential pattern, we have modified the prefixspan algorithm incorporating the weightage constraints such as, spending time and recent visiting. Then, the weighted sequential patterns are utilized to construct the recommendation model using the Patricia trie-based tree structure. Finally, the recommendation of the current users is done with the help of markov model that is the probability theory enabling the reasoning and computation as intractable. For experimentation, the synthetic dataset is utilized to analyze the performance of W-Prefixspan algorithm as well as web page recommendation algorithm. From the results, the memory required for the W-prefixSpan algorithm is less than 50% of memory needed for PrefixSpan algorithm

    In this network era, Web Page Recommendation and web page Recommendation systems can take advantage of semantic network reasoning-capabilities to overcome common limitations of current systems and improve the recommendations’ quality. This paper presents a personalized-web-recommendation system, a system that makes use of representations of items and user-profiles based on ontology in order to provide semantic applications with personalized services. The recommender uses domain ontology to enhance the personalization: on the other hand, user’s interests are modeled in a more effective and accurate way by applying a domain-based inference method; on the other hand, the stemmer algorithm used by our content-based filtering approach, which provides a measure of the affinity between an item and a user, is enhanced by applying a semantic similarity method. Web Usage Mining plays an important role in web page recommender systems and web personalization system. In this paper, we propose an effective personalized web recommendation system based on ontology and Web Usage Mining.
