An Analysis of Publication Venues for Automatic Differentiation Research
We present the results of our analysis of publication venues for papers on
automatic differentiation (AD), covering academic journals and conference
proceedings. Our data are collected from the AD publications database
maintained by the autodiff.org community website. The database is purpose-built
for the AD field and is expanding via submissions by AD researchers. Therefore,
it provides a relatively noise-free list of publications relating to the field.
However, it does include noise in the form of variant spellings of journal and
conference names. We handle this by manually correcting and merging these
variants under the official names of corresponding venues. We also share the
raw data we get after these corrections.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figure
Sustainability and Food: a Text Analysis of the Scientific Literature
The paper analyses the evolution of the research debate related to sustainability and to the relation between food and sustainability. A number of text analysis techniques were combined for the investigation of scientific papers. The results stress how discourse analysis of sustainability in the pre-Rio period is mostly associated with agriculture and with a vision where the ecological and environmental aspects are dominant. In the post-Rio phase, the discussion about sustainability, though still strongly linked to environmental issues, enters a holistic dimension that includes social elements. The themes of energy and the sustainability of urban areas become central, and the scientific debate stresses the importance of indicators within an assessment approach linked to the relevance of planning and intervention aspects. The focus on the role of food within the debate on sustainability highlights a food security oriented approach in the pre-Rio phase, with a particular attention towards agriculture and third world Countries. In the post-Rio period, the focus of the analysis moves towards developed Countries. Even though food security remains a strongly significant element of the debate, the attention shifts towards consumers and food choices
A Framework for Comparing Groups of Documents
We present a general framework for comparing multiple groups of documents. A
bipartite graph model is proposed where document groups are represented as one
node set and the comparison criteria are represented as the other node set.
Using this model, we present basic algorithms to extract insights into
similarities and differences among the document groups. Finally, we demonstrate
the versatility of our framework through an analysis of NSF funding programs

A Simple and Scalable Static Analysis for Bound Analysis and Amortized Complexity Analysis
We present the first scalable bound analysis that achieves amortized
complexity analysis. In contrast to earlier work, our bound analysis is not
based on general purpose reasoners such as abstract interpreters, software
model checkers or computer algebra tools. Rather, we derive bounds directly
from abstract program models, which we obtain from programs by comparatively
simple invariant generation and symbolic execution techniques. As a result, we
obtain an analysis that is more predictable and more scalable than earlier
approaches. Our experiments demonstrate that our analysis is fast and at the
same time able to compute bounds for challenging loops in a large real-world
benchmark. Technically, our approach is based on lossy vector addition systems
(VASS). Our bound analysis first computes a lexicographic ranking function that
proves the termination of a VASS, and then derives a bound from this ranking
function. Our methodology achieves amortized analysis based on a new insight
how lexicographic ranking functions can be used for bound analysis

Let K be an algebraic number field of degree d and discriminant D over Q. Let
A be an associative algebra over K given by structure constants such that A is
isomorphic to the algebra M_n(K) of n by n matrices over K for some positive
integer n. Suppose that d, n and D are bounded. Then an isomorphism of A with
M_n(K) can be constructed by a polynomial time ff-algorithm. (An ff-algorithm
is a deterministic procedure which is allowed to call oracles for factoring
integers and factoring univariate polynomials over finite fields.)
As a consequence, we obtain a polynomial time ff-algorithm to compute
