This project develops a web database management system for Gfeller Center at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. This system allows users to upload and download structured data in terms of specific requirements. The Gfeller Center works on research that studies the health condition of athletes. Researchers have collected a large amount of data from previous studies and they keep collecting data as the research goes on. The researchers need tools to help manage and organize the data and need advanced functionality to support their research. Therefore, this project helps to develop a web database system to manage data according to the requirements of the researchers in Gfeller Center. The system development includes requirements analysis, functionality analysis, and interface design. Finally, this project proposes a plan for usability testing to evaluate the system.Master of Science in Information Scienc

Every aspect of management relies on information to succeed. According to Adekeye (1997) information has become a critical resource to the organizations and individuals and should be properly managed to ensure its cost effective use. Best (1988) stated that to improve the performance of the organization, information management must be economic, efficient and effective. Information systems and organization have been highly interconnected with each other. Adekeye (1997) and Rob and Corone (2000) stated that the development and used of information is generated, accessed and distributed. The Web can be considered to be a very large semi-structured database that holds vast amounts of useful information is generated, accessed and distributed. The Web can be considered to be a very large semi-structured database that holds vast amounts of usefull information. These days, good decision requires information that comes from a manageable data storage. The internet has transformed database management system and put them in move towards Web enabled database application. Many organizations are now taking full advantage of the web in becoming web centric organization. In fact, many database professionals believe that web database as a significant element in information system development. Hence, this study discusses the database system development and framework in developing a school information management system prototype, using Apache, MySQL and PHP. The system development was designed using the Database Development Life Cycle (DBLC) approach. The web based School Information Management System prototype can be used as a reference in the implementation of web- based management system for the schools

DIAGNOSIS AND RECOMMENDER SYSTEM FOR SOME NEGLECTED TROPICAL DISEASES

Failure to promptly diagnose and treat of some tropical diseases such as chicken pox, cholera and typhoid fever is affecting the community-based management of such diseases. The high mortality rates caused by these diseases make the quest for effective diagnoses and appropriate treatment an essential task. Thus, precise diagnosis of these diseases coupled with appropriate treatment will result in their control, especially in the tropical regions, which also constitute the developing countries. The system works for this research was based on the client/server architecture, structured as a 3-tier application. The Web browser constituted the first tier, a middleware engine using some dynamic Web content technology active server pages (ASP) constituted the middle-tier and the database was the third tier. The implementation of the system had a front- end web based graphical user interface (GUI) application and back-end relational database management system (RDBMS). The Front–end was implemented with ASP.NET (using vb.net-programming language), while the back-end was designed with Microsoft queried language (MS SQL) server 2005. With this development, a prompt medical diagnosis, effective drug recommendations and promulgation of effective policies could be provided at community settings where there are shortages in material and human resources for managing these neglected tropical diseases

iPETLIN- Petlin Database Management System is a project to build a web application to provide a database management system by setting up a standard data model with a standard record keeping procedure. The long time taken to reach the resources, the variety of documents used to store data and data anomalies are the problems which are expected to be reduced and solved once the project is implemented. The scope of study for this project building a web application and database management system in a company, Petlin (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd. Taking Extreme Programming as its guidance to build the web application, this project is expected to finish in a short time. Based on the surveys done, most of the staff agreed that all problems in the company happen many times in their working days

User Interface Improvement for MLPQ System

This thesis describes the experience of migrating the MLPQ constraint database system, a complex standalone Multiple Document Interface (MDI) application, to a server-based remote accessible application. Centralized, standalone MDI application is a common style for personal software products in Windows. For a database management system, server-based, thin-client computing is a more popular infrastructure. Migrating an existing standalone constraint database application to be a web accessible constraint database server is the main goal of this thesis. This migration process provides a method for the constraint database system to collaborate with other specific applications. We rebuild the desktop MLPQ constraint database system to be a web constraint database server. The analysis method, design model and sample codes in this thesis can be considered as a successful development sample for other development of migrating a desktop MDI system to a remote accessible web service application. We also design and implement a function that finds the complement of a 2-D geometric constraint relation. Advisor: Peter Reves

FINAL YEAR PROJECT ONLINE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (FYPOS): CLIENT AND SERVER DESIGN

This paper proposed Final Year Project Online Management System to replace the current manual system. This Web-based system will emerge the paradigm of Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS management. The manual system is messy and time consuming with lack in efficiency. The main objective of this project is to engage all parties in one collaborative online system systematically as a medium in exchanging information for Final Year Project. Developing the system involves the knowledge of web design, web setup, database design, database setup and server setup. FYP Online Management System will be developed in an open source environment. Using Linux operating system on the server platform, the system will utilize MySQL as its database system and Apache as the Web server. The scripting language on server side is PHP while HTML with JavaScript is written on client side. Considering three user groups for FYP Online Management System, there will be different interface and function for each group. Administrator will be managing the system with the task of handling user registrations and accounts. User verification will secure the system. This web enabled project management and its associated features are strongly worth, feasible and relevance in fulfilling the endeavours of the parties concerned
