    Análise de conteúdo da comunicação assíncrona : considerações metodológicas e recomendações práticas

    Disponível onlineNeste artigo discutimos o potencial e os desafios metodológicos que se colocam aos investigadores que pretendem analisar o conteúdo da comunicação assíncrona gerada em ambientes online. Trata-se de uma temática atual e pertinente num momento em que as instituições publicas e privadas se apoiam cada vez mais nas tecnologias digitais para o desenho de cenários de educação/formação online em se criam situações de aprendizagem ricas e diversificadas. Nestes novos ambientes é recorrente o uso da interação com predominância da comunicação escrita, e é pelo seu estudo que se consegue capturar os processos de construção do conhecimento e de colaboração gerados em contextos virtual. O presente artigo está organizado em quatro secções onde se analisa e discute as diferentes fases que integram a análise de conteúdo da comunicação mediada por computador (CMC), nomeadamente a escolha do modelo teórico e da unidade de análise bem como os procedimentos metodológicos que permitem assegurar a fiabilidade do processo de codificação da comunicação textual. A discussão é sustentada com a apresentação de um exemplo concreto no sentido de ajudar os investigadores a perceberem como a análise de conteúdo pode ser usada para compreender a complexidade dos processos de ensino e aprendizagem em ambientes online.In this article we discuss the potential and the methodological challenges posed to researchers who seek to analyse the content of asynchronous communication generated within online environments. It addresses a current and relevant issue, particularly in the context of higher education, in which the use of digital technologies opens up opportunities for the design of new online education/training scenarios. In those new learning environments, the use of interaction, predominantly written communication, is recurrent, thus being its study a way of investigating the processes of knowledge construction in virtual context. In the present article we begin by addressing the different stages occurring in the process of content analysis of computer-mediated communication (CMC), including the choice of the theoretical model and the unit of analysis, as well as the methodological procedures which allow to assure the reliability of the coding process of the written text generated in asynchronous interaction. The discussion is sustained by the presentation of a concrete example, in order to help researchers use the content analysis of asynchronous communication to understand the complexity of teaching and learning processes in online environments.FC

    Cooperative Learning in Videoconferencing: The Influence of Content Schemes and Cooperation Scripts on Shared External Representations and Individual Learning Outcomes

    Video-conferencing is expected to become increasingly important for tele-learning environments. This study investigates how to foster cooperative learning in videoconferencing. The learning environment was a peer-teaching scenario, which demanded the learners to teach each other theories. In this study the effects of different types of support for cooperation were investigated. The main research question is how (1) content schemes and (2) cooperation scripts enhance the construction of collaborative external representations and foster learning outcomes. Re-sults indicate that content schemes as well as cooperation scripts foster the construction of shared external representations. Im Rahmen dieser Studie wird untersucht, wie man kooperatives Lernen in Videokonferenzen unterstützen kann. Als Lernumgebung wurde ein Peer-Teaching Szenario gewählt, bei dem es die Aufgabe der Lernenden war, sich gegenseitig eine Theorie zu vermitteln. Dabei werden die Auswirkungen einer Unterstützung durch die Faktoren (1) Wissensschemata und (2) Kooperationsskripts auf die Erstellung einer gemeinsamen externalen Repräsentation und auf den Lernerfolg untersucht. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass sowohl Wissensschemata als auch Kooperationsskripts positive Effekte auf die Erstellung der gemeinsamen externalen Repräsentation haben.     Epistemic and Social Scripts in Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning

    Collaborative learning in computer-supported learning environments typically means that learners work on tasks together, discussing their individual perspectives via text-based media or videoconferencing, and consequently acquire knowledge. Collaborative learning, however, is often sub-optimal with respect to how learners work on the concepts that are supposed to be learned and how learners interact with each other. Therefore, instructional support needs to be implemented into computer-supported collaborative learning environments. One possibility to improve collaborative learning environments is to conceptualize scripts that structure epistemic activities and social interactions of learners. In this contribution, two studies will be reported that investigated the effects of epistemic and social scripts in a text-based computer-supported learning environment and in a videoconferencing learning environment in order to foster the individual acquisition of knowledge. In each study the factors "epistemic script" and "social script" have been independently varied in a 2×2-factorial design. 182 university students of Educational Science participated in these two studies. Results of both studies show that social scripts can be substantially beneficial with respect to the individual acquisition of knowledge, whereas epistemic scripts apparently do not lead to the expected effects.Unter kooperativem Lernen in computerunterstützten Lernumgebungen versteht man typischerweise, dass Lernende Wissen erwerben indem sie gemeinsam Aufgaben bearbeiten und dabei ihre individuellen Perspektiven mittels textbasierter Medien oder in Videokonferenzen diskutieren. Kooperatives Lernen scheint aber häufig suboptimal zu sein in Bezug auf die inhaltliche Bearbeitung der zu lernenden Konzepte sowie hinsichtlich der sozialen Interaktionen der Lernenden. Eine Möglichkeit kooperative Lernumgebungen zu verbessern besteht darin, Skripts zu konzeptualisieren, die epistemische Aktivitäten und soziale Interaktionen von Lernenden unterstützen. In diesem Beitrag werden zwei Studien berichtet, die die Wirkungen epistemischer und sozialer Skripts auf den individuellen Wissenserwerb in einer text- bzw. einer videobasierten computerunterstützten Lernumgebung untersuchen. In beiden Studien wurden die Faktoren "epistemisches Skript" und "soziales Skript" unabhängig voneinander in einem 2×2-faktoriellen Design miteinander variiert. 182 Studierende der Pädagogik der LMU München nahmen an diesen beiden Studien teil.     Facilitating collaborative knowledge construction in computer-mediated learning with structuring tools

    Collaborative knowledge construction in computer-mediated learning environments puts forward difficulties regarding what tasks learners work on and how learners interact with each other. For instance, learners who collaboratively construct knowledge in computer-mediated learning environments sometimes do not participate actively or engage in off-task talk. Computer-mediated learning environments can be endorsed with socio-cognitive structuring tools that structure the contents to be learned and suggest specific interactions for collaborative learners. In this article, two studies will be reported that applied content- and interaction-oriented structuring tools in computer-mediated learning environments based on electronic bulletin boards and videoconferencing technologies. In each study the factors "content-oriented structuring tool" and "interaction-oriented structuring tool" have been independently varied in a 2X2-factorial design. Results show that interaction-oriented structuring tools substantially foster the processes of collaborative knowledge construction as well as learning outcomes. The content-oriented structuring tools facilitate the processes of collaborative knowledge construction, but have no or negative effects on learning outcome. Computervermittelte Lernumgebungen können mit Hilfe sozio-kognitiver Strukturierungswerkzeuge unterstützt werden, die die Lerninhalte vorstrukturieren und den Lernenden spezifische Interaktionen nahe legen. In diesem Beitrag werden zwei Studien berichtet, die inhalts- und interaktionsbezogene Strukturierungswerkzeuge in computervermittelten Lernumgebungen, die auf web-basierten Diskussionsforen und Videokonferenz-Technologien beruhen, zum Einsatz gebracht und analysiert haben. In jeder der Studien wurden die Faktoren "inhaltsbezogenes Strukturierungswerkzeug" und "interaktionsbezogenes Strukturierungswerkzeug" unabhängig voneinander in einem 2X2-Design variiert. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass interaktionsbezogene Strukturierungswerkzeuge die Prozesse sowie die Ergebnisse gemeinsamer Wissenskonstruktion substanziell fördern können.     Supporting Collaborative Learning in Videoconferencing using Collaboration Scripts and Content Schemes

    Studies have shown that videoconferences are an effective medium for facilitating communication between parties who are separated by distance. Furthermore, studies reveal that videoconferences are effective when used for distance learning, particularly due to their ability to facilitate complex collaborative learning tasks. However, as in face-to-face communication, learners benefit when they receive additional support for such learning tasks. This article provides an overview of two empirical studies to illustrate more general insights regarding some effective and less effective ways to support collaborative learning with videoconferencing. The focus is on content schemes as content-specific support and task-specific support as collaboration scripts. Based on the results of the two studies, conclusions can be drawn about support measures that promote learning. Conclusions can also be reached about the need for employing both content schemes and collaboration scripts to provide learners with the most benefit.Studien haben gezeigt, dass Videokonferenzen ein effektives Medium für die verteilte Kommunikation sind. Ebenso zeigten erste Studien, dass sich Videokonferenzen auch in Telelernumgebungen einsetzen lassen, insbesondere weil sie komplexe kooperative Lernaufgaben ermöglichen. Lernende profitieren jedoch in solchen Lernaufgaben – ähnlich wie face to face – von zusätzlicher Unterstützung. In diesem Beitrag werden zwei empirische Studien dargestellt, die weiterführende Erkenntnisse hinsichtlich effektiver und weniger effektiver Arten der Unterstützung kollaborativen Lernens in Videokonferenzen erbringen sollen. Der Schwerpunkt liegt dabei auf Wissensschemata als Methode inhaltlicher Unterstützung, und aufgabenspezifischer Unterstützung in Form von Kooperationsskripts. Ausgehend von den Ergebnissen dieser zwei Studien werden Folgerungen über lernförderliche Merkmale der Unterstützungsmaßnahmen formuliert.     This study investigates collaborative learning of small groups via text-based com-puter-mediated communication. We analyzed how two approaches to pre-structure communication influence participation, individual knowledge transfer, the conver-gence of participation and the convergence of knowledge among learning partners. We varied the factor "scripted cooperation" and the factor "scaffolding" in a 2x2-design. 105 university students of Pedagogy participated.     Collaborative trails in e-learning environments

    This deliverable focuses on collaboration within groups of learners, and hence collaborative trails. We begin by reviewing the theoretical background to collaborative learning and looking at the kinds of support that computers can give to groups of learners working collaboratively, and then look more deeply at some of the issues in designing environments to support collaborative learning trails and at tools and techniques, including collaborative filtering, that can be used for analysing collaborative trails. We then review the state-of-the-art in supporting collaborative learning in three different areas – experimental academic systems, systems using mobile technology (which are also generally academic), and commercially available systems. The final part of the deliverable presents three scenarios that show where technology that supports groups working collaboratively and producing collaborative trails may be heading in the near future
