Human-Machine Interface for Remote Training of Robot Tasks
Regardless of their industrial or research application, the streamlining of
robot operations is limited by the proximity of experienced users to the actual
hardware. Be it massive open online robotics courses, crowd-sourcing of robot
task training, or remote research on massive robot farms for machine learning,
the need to create an apt remote Human-Machine Interface is quite prevalent.
The paper at hand proposes a novel solution to the programming/training of
remote robots employing an intuitive and accurate user-interface which offers
all the benefits of working with real robots without imposing delays and
inefficiency. The system includes: a vision-based 3D hand detection and gesture
recognition subsystem, a simulated digital twin of a robot as visual feedback,
and the "remote" robot learning/executing trajectories using dynamic motion
primitives. Our results indicate that the system is a promising solution to the

A Review of Verbal and Non-Verbal Human-Robot Interactive Communication
In this paper, an overview of human-robot interactive communication is
presented, covering verbal as well as non-verbal aspects of human-robot
interaction. Following a historical introduction, and motivation towards fluid
human-robot communication, ten desiderata are proposed, which provide an
organizational axis both of recent as well as of future research on human-robot
communication. Then, the ten desiderata are examined in detail, culminating to
a unifying discussion, and a forward-looking conclusion
A one decade survey of autonomous mobile robot systems
Recently, autonomous mobile robots have gained popularity in the modern world due to their relevance technology and application in real world situations. The global market for mobile robots will grow significantly over the next 20 years. Autonomous mobile robots are found in many fields including institutions, industry, business, hospitals, agriculture as well as private households for the purpose of improving day-to-day activities and services. The development of technology has increased in the requirements for mobile robots because of the services and tasks provided by them, like rescue and research operations, surveillance, carry heavy objects and so on. Researchers have conducted many works on the importance of robots, their uses, and problems. This article aims to analyze the control system of mobile robots and the way robots have the ability of moving in real-world to achieve their goals. It should be noted that there are several technological directions in a mobile robot industry. It must be observed and integrated so that the robot functions properly: Navigation systems, localization systems, detection systems (sensors) along with motion and kinematics and dynamics systems. All such systems should be united through a control unit; thus, the mission or work of mobile robots are conducted with reliability

Proceedings of the 9th Conference on Autonomous Robot Systems and Competitions
Welcome to ROBOTICA 2009. This is the 9th edition of the conference on Autonomous Robot Systems and Competitions, the third time with IEEEâRobotics and Automation Society Technical CoâSponsorship. Previous editions were held since 2001 in GuimaraÌes, Aveiro, Porto, Lisboa, Coimbra and Algarve. ROBOTICA 2009 is held on the 7th May, 2009, in Castelo Branco , Portugal.
ROBOTICA has received 32 paper submissions, from 10 countries, in South America, Asia and Europe. To evaluate each submission, three reviews by paper were performed by the international program committee. 23 papers were published in the proceedings and presented at the conference. Of these, 14 papers were selected for oral presentation and 9 papers were selected for poster presentation. The global acceptance ratio was 72%.
After the conference, eighth papers will be published in the Portuguese journal RoboÌtica, and the best student paper will be published in IEEE Multidisciplinary Engineering Education Magazine.
Three prizes will be awarded in the conference for: the best conference paper, the best student paper and the best presentation. The last two, sponsored by the IEEE Education Society â Student Activities Committee.

Next, to all the members of the international program committee and reviewers, who helped us with their expertise and valuable time. The Michigan Robotics Undergraduate Curriculum: Defining the Discipline of Robotics for Equity and Excellence
The Robotics Major at the University of Michigan was successfully launched in
the 2022-23 academic year as an innovative step forward to better serve
students, our communities, and our society. Building on our guiding principle
of "Robotics with Respect" and our larger Robotics Pathways model, the Michigan
Robotics Major was designed to define robotics as a true academic discipline
with both equity and excellence as our highest priorities. Understanding that
talent is equally distributed but opportunity is not, the Michigan Robotics
Major has embraced an adaptable curriculum that is accessible through a
diversity of student pathways and enables successful and sustained career-long
participation in robotics, AI, and automation professions. The results after
our planning efforts (2019-22) and first academic year (2022-23) have been
highly encouraging: more than 100 students declared Robotics as their major,
completion of the Robotics major by our first two graduates, soaring
enrollments in our Robotics classes, thriving partnerships with Historically
Black Colleges and Universities. This document provides our original curricular
proposal for the Robotics Undergraduate Program at the University of Michigan,
submitted to the Michigan Association of State Universities in April 2022 and
approved in June 2022. The dissemination of our program design is in the spirit
of continued growth for higher education towards realizing equity and
excellence.
