The area of Mobile Adhoc Network (MANET) has being a demanded topic of research for more than a decade because of its attractive communication features associated with various issues. This paper primarily discusses on the security issues, which has been still unsolved after abundant research work. The paper basically stresses on the potential features of Swarm Intelligence (SI) and its associated techniques to mitigate the security issues. Majority of the previous researches based on SI has used Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) or Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) extensively. Elaborated discussion on SI with respect to trust management, authentication, and attack models are made with support of some of the recent studies done in same area. The paper finally concludes by discussing the open issues and problem identification of the review

A Mobile Ad hoc NETwork (MANET) is a group of mobile nodes that rely on wireless network interfaces, without the use of fixed infrastructure or centralized administration. In this respect, these networks are very susceptible to numerous attacks. One of these attacks is the black hole attack and it is considered as one of the most affected kind on MANET. Consequently, the use of an Intrusion Detection System (IDS) has a major importance in the MANET protection. In this paper, a new scheme has been proposed by using an Adaptive Neuro Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) for mobile ad hoc networks to detect the black hole attack of the current activities. Evaluations using extracted database from a simulated network using the Network Simulator NS2 demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach, in comparison to an optimized IDS based ANFIS-GA

Algorithms based on spider daddy long legs for finding the optimal route in securing mobile ad hoc networks

Mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) are wireless networks that are subject to severe attacks, such as the black hole attack. One of the goals in the research is to find a method to prevent black hole attacks without decreasing network throughput or increasing routing overhead. The routing mechanism in define uses route requests (RREQs; for discovering routes) and route replies (RREPs; for receiving paths). However, this mechanism is vulnerable to attacks by malicious black hole nodes. The mechanism is developed to find the shortest secure path and to reduce overhead using the information that is available in the routing tables as an input to propose a more complex nature-inspired algorithm. The new method is called the Daddy Long-Legs Algorithm (PGO-DLLA), which modifies the standard AODV and optimizes the routing process. This method avoids dependency exclusively on the hop counts and destination sequence numbers (DSNs) that are exploited by malicious nodes in the standard AODV protocol. The experiment by performance metrics End-to-End delay and packet delivery ratio are compared in order to determine the best effort traffic. The results showed the PGO-DLLA improvement of the shortest and secure routing from black hole attack in MANET. In addition, the results indicate better performance than the related works algorithm with respect to all metrics excluding throughput which AntNet is best in routing when the pause time be more than 40 seconds. PGODLLA is able to improve the route discovery against the black hole attacks in AODV. Experiments in this thesis have shown that PGO-DLLA is able to reduce the normalized routing load, end-to-end delay, and packet loss and has a good throughput and packet delivery ratio when compared with the standard AODV protocol, BAODV protocol, and the current related protocols that enhance the routing security of the AODV protocols

Secure Routing Protocol To Mitigate Attacks By Using Blockchain Technology In Manet

MANET is a collection of mobile nodes that communicate through wireless networks as they move from one point to another. MANET is an infrastructure-less network with a changeable topology; as a result, it is very susceptible to attacks. MANET attack prevention represents a serious difficulty. Malicious network nodes are the source of network-based attacks. In a MANET, attacks can take various forms, and each one alters the network's operation in its unique way. In general, attacks can be separated into two categories: those that target the data traffic on a network and those that target the control traffic. This article explains the many sorts of assaults, their impact on MANET, and the MANET-based defence measures that are currently in place. The suggested SRA that employs blockchain technology (SRABC) protects MANET from attacks and authenticates nodes. The secure routing algorithm (SRA) proposed by blockchain technology safeguards control and data flow against threats. This is achieved by generating a Hash Function for every transaction. We will begin by discussing the security of the MANET. This article's second section explores the role of blockchain in MANET security. In the third section, the SRA is described in connection with blockchain. In the fourth phase, PDR and Throughput are utilised to conduct an SRA review using Blockchain employing PDR and Throughput. The results suggest that the proposed technique enhances MANET security while concurrently decreasing delay. The performance of the proposed technique is analysed and compared to the routing protocols Q-AODV and DSR.Comment: https://aircconline.com/ijcnc/V15N2/15223cnc07.pd

Game Theory acts as a suitable tool offering promising solutions to security-related concerns in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (i.e., MANETs). In MANETs, security forms a prominent concern as it includes nodes which are usually portable and require significant coordination between them. Further, the absence of physical organisation makes such networks susceptible to security breaches, hindering secure routing and execution among nodes. Game Theory approach has been manipulated in the current study to achieve an analytical view while addressing the security concerns in MANETs. This paper offers a Bayesian-Signaling game model capable of analysing the behaviour associated with regular as well as malicious nodes. In the proposed model, the utility of normal nodes has been increased while reducing the utility linked to malicious nodes. Moreover, the system employs a reputation system capable of stimulating best cooperation between the nodes. The regular nodes record incessantly to examine their corresponding nodes’ behaviours by using the belief system of Bayes-rules. On its comparison with existing schemes, it was revealed that the presented algorithm provides better identification of malicious nodes and attacks while delivering improved throughput and reduced false positive rate

A Secure 3-Way Routing Protocols for Intermittently Connected Mobile Ad Hoc Networks

The mobile ad hoc network may be partially connected or it may be disconnected in nature and these forms of networks are termed intermittently connected mobile ad hoc network (ICMANET). The routing in such disconnected network is commonly an arduous task. Many routing protocols have been proposed for routing in ICMANET since decades. The routing techniques in existence for ICMANET are, namely, flooding, epidemic, probabilistic, copy case, spray and wait, and so forth. These techniques achieve an effective routing with minimum latency, higher delivery ratio, lesser overhead, and so forth. Though these techniques generate effective results, in this paper, we propose novel routing algorithms grounded on agent and cryptographic techniques, namely, location dissemination service (LoDiS) routing with agent AES, A-LoDiS with agent AES routing, and B-LoDiS with agent AES routing, ensuring optimal results with respect to various network routing parameters. The algorithm along with efficient routing ensures higher degree of security. The security level is cited testing with respect to possibility of malicious nodes into the network. This paper also aids, with the comparative results of proposed algorithms, for secure routing in ICMANET

This paper present the approach require to increase the QoS of MANET network using particle swarm optimization algorithm. To improve data communication between two nodes we propose an efficient algorithm for AODV protocol using PSO where instead of suppling all default parameter with default value of AODV protocol we try to provide selective parameters with optimum value so that overall requirement of control packet get decrease that in turn result in to increase quality of service parameters of MANET. For the enhancement of reliability and reduction of cost, node speed control mechanism is implemented using PSO, The given method which is use for simulation, reduces the overall loss of data and also make transmission effective. We have also tested the performance of network by changing data rates and the speed of the node
