    Field Oriented Sliding Mode Control of Surface-Mounted Permanent Magnet AC Motors: Theory and Applications to Electrified Vehicles

    Permanent magnet ac motors have been extensively utilized for adjustable-speed traction motor drives, due to their inherent advantages including higher power density, superior efficiency and reliability, more precise and rapid torque control, larger power factor, longer bearing, and insulation life-time. Without any proportional-and-integral (PI) controllers, this paper introduces novel first- and higher-order field-oriented sliding mode control schemes. Compared with the traditional PI-based vector control techniques, it is shown that the proposed field oriented sliding mode control methods improve the dynamic torque and speed response, and enhance the robustness to parameter variations, modeling uncertainties, and external load perturbations. While both first- and higher-order controllers display excellent performance, computer simulations show that the higher-order field-oriented sliding mode scheme offers better performance by reducing the chattering phenomenon, which is presented in the first-order scheme. The higher-order field-oriented sliding mode controller, based on the hierarchical use of supertwisting algorithm, is then implemented with a Texas Instruments TMS320F28335 DSP hardware platform to prototype the surface-mounted permanent magnet ac motor drive. Last, computer simulation studies demonstrate that the proposed field-oriented sliding mode control approach is able to effectively meet the speed and torque requirements of a heavy-duty electrified vehicle during the EPA urban driving schedule

    Artificial Tune of Fuel Ratio: Design a Novel SISO Fuzzy Backstepping Adaptive Variable Structure Control

    This paper examines single input single output (SISO) chattering free variable structure control (VSC) which controller coefficient is on-line tuned by fuzzy backstepping algorithm. VSC methodology is selected as a framework to construct the control law and address the stability and robustness of the close loop system based on Lyapunove formulation. The main goal is to guarantee acceptable fuel ratio result and adjust. The proposed approach effectively combines the design technique from variable structure controller is based on Lyapunov and fuzzy estimator to estimate the nonlinearity of undefined system dynamic in backstepping controller. The input represents the function between variable structure function, error and the rate of error. The outputs represent fuel ratio, respectively. The fuzzy backstepping methodology is on-line tune the variable structure function based on adaptive methodology. The performance of the SISO VSC which controller coefficient is on-line tuned by fuzzy backstepping algorithm (FBSAVSC) is validated through comparison with VSC and proposed method.     Rotor field orientation speed and torque control of BDFM with adaptive second order sliding mode

    This paper presents two cascaded second order sliding mode controllers (SOSMCs) for brushless doubly fed motor (BDFM) adjustable speed system, which regulate the speed and torque. And an adaptive super twisting algorithm is incorporated into the SOSMCs to adaptively regulate the law of SOSMC. The proposed controllers for BDFM eliminate the average chattering encountered by most sliding mode control (SMC) schemes, and also possess the robustness and excellent static and dynamic performances of SMC. Simulation results show that the proposed control strategy is feasible, proper and effective. © 2013 IEEE

    Intelligent nonsingular terminal sliding-mode control via perturbed fuzzy neural network

    [[abstract]]In this paper, an intelligent nonsingular terminal sliding-mode control (INTSMC) system, which is composed of a terminal neural controller and a robust compensator, is proposed for an unknown nonlinear system. The terminal neural controller including a perturbed fuzzy neural network (PFNN) is the main controller and the robust compensator is designed to eliminate the effect of the approximation error introduced by the PFNN upon the system stability. The PFNN is used to approximate an unknown nonlinear term of the system dynamics and perturbed asymmetric membership functions are used to handle rule uncertainties when it is hard to exactly determine the grade of membership functions. In additional, Lyapunov stability theory is used to discuss the parameter learning and system stability of the INTSMC system. Finally, the proposed INTSMC system is applied to an inverted pendulum and a voice coil motor actuator. The simulation and experimental results show that the proposed INTSMC system can achieve favorable tracking performance and is robust against parameter variations in the plant

    Skyhook surface sliding mode control on semi-active vehicle suspension systems for ride comfort enhancement

    A skyhook surface sliding mode control method was proposed and applied to the control on the semi-active vehicle suspension system for its ride comfort enhancement. A two degree of freedom dynamic model of a vehicle semi-active suspension system was given, which focused on the passenger’s ride comfort perform-ance. A simulation with the given initial conditions has been devised in MATLAB/SIMULINK. The simula-tion results were showing that there was an enhanced level of ride comfort for the vehicle semi-active sus-pension system with the skyhook surface sliding mode controller

    Robust fuzzy sliding mode control for air supply on PEM fuel cell system

    In this paper, an adaptive fuzzy sliding mode controller is employed for air supply on proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) systems. The control objective is to adjust the oxygen excess ratio at a given set point in order to prevent oxygen starvation and damage to the fuel-cell stack. The proposed control scheme consists of two parts: a sliding mode controller (SMC) and fuzzy logic controller (FLC) with an adjustable gain factor. The SMC is used to calculate the equivalent control law and the FLC is used to approximate the control hitting law. The performance of the proposed control strategy is analysed through simulations for different load variations. The results indicated that the adaptive fuzzy sliding mode controller (AFSMC) is excellent in terms of stability and several key performance indices such as the integral squared error (ISE), the integral absolute error (IAE) and the integral time-weighted absolute error (ITAE), as well as the settling and rise times for the closed-loop control system.Peer ReviewedPostprint (author's final draft
