A new fuzzy classifier with triangular membership functions
Fuzzy logic is widely applied in control and modeling for its robustness, simplicity and clarity. It is also applied in classifier design with rules directly generated from numerical data. Some available rule generation methods, however, are either too complicated to implement or impractical for high dimensions. In this paper, we propose a new fuzzy classifier architecture. At the very beginning the training data is clustered at the input space. Fuzzy sets are then defined based on these clusters with triangular membership function. The outputs in the rule conclusion are initially determined by the “normalized vote” in the corresponding cluster. Fuzzy sets and conclusions can be adjusted through training. The proposed fuzzy system is simple in structure, and can be fast trained and easily implemented. Its classification performance is generally better than artificial neural network.published_or_final_versio

An intelligent system for risk classification of stock investment projects
The proposed paper demonstrates that a hybrid fuzzy neural network can serve as a risk classifier of stock investment projects. The training algorithm for the regular part of the network is based on bidirectional incremental evolution proving more efficient than direct evolution. The approach is compared with other crisp and soft investment appraisal and trading techniques, while building a multimodel domain representation for an intelligent decision support system. Thus the advantages of each model are utilised while looking at the investment problem from different perspectives. The empirical results are based on UK companies traded on the London Stock Exchange
On the usage of the probability integral transform to reduce the complexity of multi-way fuzzy decision trees in Big Data classification problems
We present a new distributed fuzzy partitioning method to reduce the
complexity of multi-way fuzzy decision trees in Big Data classification
problems. The proposed algorithm builds a fixed number of fuzzy sets for all
variables and adjusts their shape and position to the real distribution of
training data. A two-step process is applied : 1) transformation of the
original distribution into a standard uniform distribution by means of the
probability integral transform. Since the original distribution is generally
unknown, the cumulative distribution function is approximated by computing the
q-quantiles of the training set; 2) construction of a Ruspini strong fuzzy
partition in the transformed attribute space using a fixed number of equally
distributed triangular membership functions. Despite the aforementioned
transformation, the definition of every fuzzy set in the original space can be
recovered by applying the inverse cumulative distribution function (also known
as quantile function). The experimental results reveal that the proposed
methodology allows the state-of-the-art multi-way fuzzy decision tree (FMDT)
induction algorithm to maintain classification accuracy with up to 6 million
fewer leaves.Comment: Appeared in 2018 IEEE International Congress on Big Data (BigData

Fuzzy Least Squares Twin Support Vector Machines
Least Squares Twin Support Vector Machine (LST-SVM) has been shown to be an
efficient and fast algorithm for binary classification. It combines the
operating principles of Least Squares SVM (LS-SVM) and Twin SVM (T-SVM); it
constructs two non-parallel hyperplanes (as in T-SVM) by solving two systems of
linear equations (as in LS-SVM). Despite its efficiency, LST-SVM is still
unable to cope with two features of real-world problems. First, in many
real-world applications, labels of samples are not deterministic; they come
naturally with their associated membership degrees. Second, samples in
real-world applications may not be equally important and their importance
degrees affect the classification. In this paper, we propose Fuzzy LST-SVM
(FLST-SVM) to deal with these two characteristics of real-world data. Two
models are introduced for FLST-SVM: the first model builds up crisp hyperplanes
using training samples and their corresponding membership degrees. The second
model, on the other hand, constructs fuzzy hyperplanes using training samples
and their membership degrees. Numerical evaluation of the proposed method with
synthetic and real datasets demonstrate significant improvement in the
classification accuracy of FLST-SVM when compared to well-known existing
versions of SVM
Designing fuzzy rule based classifier using self-organizing feature map for analysis of multispectral satellite images
We propose a novel scheme for designing fuzzy rule based classifier. An SOFM
based method is used for generating a set of prototypes which is used to
generate a set of fuzzy rules. Each rule represents a region in the feature
space that we call the context of the rule. The rules are tuned with respect to
their context. We justified that the reasoning scheme may be different in
different context leading to context sensitive inferencing. To realize context
sensitive inferencing we used a softmin operator with a tunable parameter. The
proposed scheme is tested on several multispectral satellite image data sets
and the performance is found to be much better than the results reported in the
literature.Comment: 23 pages, 7 figure
Land cover classification using fuzzy rules and aggregation of contextual information through evidence theory
Land cover classification using multispectral satellite image is a very
challenging task with numerous practical applications. We propose a multi-stage
classifier that involves fuzzy rule extraction from the training data and then
generation of a possibilistic label vector for each pixel using the fuzzy rule
base. To exploit the spatial correlation of land cover types we propose four
different information aggregation methods which use the possibilistic class
label of a pixel and those of its eight spatial neighbors for making the final
classification decision. Three of the aggregation methods use Dempster-Shafer
theory of evidence while the remaining one is modeled after the fuzzy k-NN
rule. The proposed methods are tested with two benchmark seven channel
satellite images and the results are found to be quite satisfactory. They are
also compared with a Markov random field (MRF) model-based contextual
classification method and found to perform consistently better.Comment: 14 pages, 2 figure
Big Data Analysis Using Neuro-Fuzzy System
This project addresses big data classification using hybrid IntelligenceClassification System. Hybrid Intelligence classification system is a system thatcombines at least two intelligent technologies. Specifically, the focus of this project is toapply hybrid Neuro-Fuzzy system to the IBM Watson data and InnocentiveTrustworthiness challenge data for prediction and classification. Neural network are low-level computational structure which has ability to learn and performs well on the rawdata. On the other hand, fuzzy logic deals with reasoning on higher level using If-thenrules and linguistic variables. So combining these two methods can provide us with avery powerful classification system
