    A REVIEW OF APPLICATIONS OF MULTIPLE - CRITERIA DECISION-MAKING TECHNIQUES TO FISHERIES

    Management of public resources, such as fisheries, is a complex task. Society, in general, has a number of goals that it hopes to achieve from the use of public resources. These include conservation, economic, and social objectives. However, these objectives often conflict, due to the varying opinions of the many stakeholders. It would appear that the techniques available in the field of multiple-criteria decision-making (MCDM) are well suited to the analysis and determination of fisheries management regimes. However, to date, relatively few publications exist using such MCDM methods compared to other applicational fields, such as forestry, agriculture, and finance. This paper reviews MCDM applied to fishery management by providing an overview of the research published to date.     Finding Minimal Cost Herbrand Models with Branch-Cut-and-Price

    Given (1) a set of clauses TT in some first-order language L\cal L and (2) a cost function c:BL→R+c : B_{{\cal L}} \rightarrow \mathbb{R}_{+}, mapping each ground atom in the Herbrand base BLB_{{\cal L}} to a non-negative real, then the problem of finding a minimal cost Herbrand model is to either find a Herbrand model I\cal I of TT which is guaranteed to minimise the sum of the costs of true ground atoms, or establish that there is no Herbrand model for TT. A branch-cut-and-price integer programming (IP) approach to solving this problem is presented. Since the number of ground instantiations of clauses and the size of the Herbrand base are both infinite in general, we add the corresponding IP constraints and IP variables `on the fly' via `cutting' and `pricing' respectively. In the special case of a finite Herbrand base we show that adding all IP variables and constraints from the outset can be advantageous, showing that a challenging Markov logic network MAP problem can be solved in this way if encoded appropriately

    Meta-F*: Proof Automation with SMT, Tactics, and Metaprograms

    We introduce Meta-F*, a tactics and metaprogramming framework for the F* program verifier. The main novelty of Meta-F* is allowing the use of tactics and metaprogramming to discharge assertions not solvable by SMT, or to just simplify them into well-behaved SMT fragments. Plus, Meta-F* can be used to generate verified code automatically. Meta-F* is implemented as an F* effect, which, given the powerful effect system of F*, heavily increases code reuse and even enables the lightweight verification of metaprograms. Metaprograms can be either interpreted, or compiled to efficient native code that can be dynamically loaded into the F* type-checker and can interoperate with interpreted code. Evaluation on realistic case studies shows that Meta-F* provides substantial gains in proof development, efficiency, and robustness.Comment: Full version of ESOP'19 pape

    A survey of QoS-aware web service composition techniques

    Web service composition can be briefly described as the process of aggregating services with disparate functionalities into a new composite service in order to meet increasingly complex needs of users. Service composition process has been accurate on dealing with services having disparate functionalities, however, over the years the number of web services in particular that exhibit similar functionalities and varying Quality of Service (QoS) has significantly increased. As such, the problem becomes how to select appropriate web services such that the QoS of the resulting composite service is maximized or, in some cases, minimized. This constitutes an NP-hard problem as it is complicated and difficult to solve. In this paper, a discussion of concepts of web service composition and a holistic review of current service composition techniques proposed in literature is presented. Our review spans several publications in the field that can serve as a road map for future research
