Intelligent Learning Algorithms for Active Vibration Control
YesThis correspondence presents an investigation into the
comparative performance of an active vibration control (AVC) system
using a number of intelligent learning algorithms. Recursive least square
(RLS), evolutionary genetic algorithms (GAs), general regression neural
network (GRNN), and adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS)
algorithms are proposed to develop the mechanisms of an AVC system.
The controller is designed on the basis of optimal vibration suppression
using a plant model. A simulation platform of a flexible beam system
in transverse vibration using a finite difference method is considered to
demonstrate the capabilities of the AVC system using RLS, GAs, GRNN,
and ANFIS. The simulation model of the AVC system is implemented,
tested, and its performance is assessed for the system identification models
using the proposed algorithms. Finally, a comparative performance of the
algorithms in implementing the model of the AVC system is presented and
discussed through a set of experiments

Recursive Percentage based Hybrid Pattern Training for Supervised Learning
Supervised learning algorithms, often used to find the I/O relationship in data, have the tendency to be trapped in local optima as opposed to the desirable global optima. In this paper, we discuss the RPHP learning algorithm. The algorithm uses Real Coded Genetic Algorithm based global and local searches to find a set of pseudo global optimal solutions. Each pseudo global optimum is a local optimal solution from the point of view of all the patterns but globally optimal from the point of view of a subset of patterns. Together with RPHP, a Kth nearest neighbor algorithm is used as a second level pattern distributor to solve a test pattern. We also show theoretically the condition under which finding several pseudo global optimal solutions requires a shorter training time than finding a single global optimal solution. As the difficulty of curve fitting problems is easily estimated, we verify the capability of the RPHP algorithm against them and compare the RPHP algorithm with three counterparts to show the benefits of hybrid learning and active recursive subset selection. The RPHP shows a clear superiority in performance. We conclude our paper by identifying possible loopholes in the RPHP algorithm and proposing possible solutions
Risk Assessment Algorithms Based On Recursive Neural Networks
The assessment of highly-risky situations at road intersections have been
recently revealed as an important research topic within the context of the
automotive industry. In this paper we shall introduce a novel approach to
compute risk functions by using a combination of a highly non-linear processing
model in conjunction with a powerful information encoding procedure.
Specifically, the elements of information either static or dynamic that appear
in a road intersection scene are encoded by using directed positional acyclic
labeled graphs. The risk assessment problem is then reformulated in terms of an
inductive learning task carried out by a recursive neural network. Recursive
neural networks are connectionist models capable of solving supervised and
non-supervised learning problems represented by directed ordered acyclic
graphs. The potential of this novel approach is demonstrated through well
predefined scenarios. The major difference of our approach compared to others
is expressed by the fact of learning the structure of the risk. Furthermore,
the combination of a rich information encoding procedure with a generalized
model of dynamical recurrent networks permit us, as we shall demonstrate, a
sophisticated processing of information that we believe as being a first step
for building future advanced intersection safety system
