Innovating Mindfully with Service-Oriented Grids - The Role of Organizational Mindfulness in Turbulent Environments

    Get PDF
Environmental turbulence as being illustrated by the current international financial crisis leads to a high degree of uncertainty in decision-making processes. However, even in conventional economic cycles, demanding decision processes are exposed to varying levels of environmental turbulence and institutional pressure. Consistent with the extant literature, organizational mindfulness as cognitive pattern is supposed to attenuate arising uncertainty and error in the IS assimilation process. So far, little empirical research has been conducted to quantify the impact of organizational mindfulness on the IS assimilation and business value generation process in industry. Grounded in the technology-organization-environment framework this research approach contributes to the diffusion of innovations and IS assimilation theory by validating the role of organizational mindfulness in interacting with institutional pressure against the background of environmental turbulence. The planned crosscountry (North America, Europe) questionnaire-based field study aims at IS decision makers among the 3000 largest financial services providers worldwide allowing for cross-country comparisons

In the world where significant changes are made in a matter of seconds instead of centuries, creating ideas and knowledge that are in line with these changes could create competitive advantages. The aim of the present paper is investigating the condition of knowledge management in Mazandaran sport organizations. This is descriptive-survey study in which Madhoushi's questionnaire was used. The population of the study comprises all the employees of Mazandaran Sports and Youth Organization, all the managers in physical education of the department of education and sports board managers in the province. The results show that knowledge management is in a desirable condition, this matter put Mazandaran sport on the map. The components of knowledge acquisition and knowledge creation are not in desirable condition but the other components including knowledge storage, knowledge sharing and knowledge application have been placed in a suitable condition

A Platform-based Design Approach for Flexible Software Components

We develop a design method that promotes flexible component design based on a common component platform with various plug-ins. The approach increases the flexibility and expandability of software components, which improves their reuse opportunities. We argue that such a flexible component design can expand reuse from relatively small infrastructure items, such as user interfaces, printing functionality, and data access modules, to the core of the application domain. Reusing such domain-specific items helps realize the true value of component-based software development. Following a design science research approach, we evaluated the component design method by assessing its correctness and its application to different scenarios. We also recruited a panel of experts to assess it
