Prediction in Photovoltaic Power by Neural Networks

    Get PDF
The ability to forecast the power produced by renewable energy plants in the short and middle term is a key issue to allow a high-level penetration of the distributed generation into the grid infrastructure. Forecasting energy production is mandatory for dispatching and distribution issues, at the transmission system operator level, as well as the electrical distributor and power system operator levels. In this paper, we present three techniques based on neural and fuzzy neural networks, namely the radial basis function, the adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system and the higher-order neuro-fuzzy inference system, which are well suited to predict data sequences stemming from real-world applications. The preliminary results concerning the prediction of the power generated by a large-scale photovoltaic plant in Italy confirm the reliability and accuracy of the proposed approaches

AbstractThe electrical short term load forecasting has been emerged as one of the most essential field of research for efficient and reliable operation of power system in last few decades. It plays very significant role in the field of scheduling, contingency analysis, load flow analysis, planning and maintenance of power system. This paper addresses a review on recently published research work on different variants of artificial neural network in the field of short term load forecasting. In particular, the hybrid networks which is a combination of neural network with stochastic learning techniques such as genetic algorithm(GA), particle swarm optimization (PSO) etc. which has been successfully applied for short term load forecasting (STLF) is discussed thoroughly

Forecasting Short-term Wholesale Prices on the Irish Single Electricity Market

Electricity markets are different from other markets as electricity generation cannot be easily stored in substantial amounts and to avoid blackouts, the generation of electricity must be balanced with customer demand for it on a second-by-second basis. Customers tend to rely on electricity for day-to-day living and cannot replace it easily so when electricity prices increase, customer demand generally does not reduce significantly in the short-term. As electricity generation and customer demand must be matched perfectly second-by-second, and because generation cannot be stored to a considerable extent, cost bids from generators must be balanced with demand estimates in advance of real-time. This paper outlines a a forecasting algorithm built on artificial neural networks to predict short-term wholesale prices on the Irish Single Electricity Market so that market participants can make more informed trading decisions. Research studies have demonstrated that an adaptive or self-adaptive approach to forecasting would appear more suited to the task of predicting energy demands in territory such as Ireland. We have identified the features that such a model demands and outline it here

The non-reliability of fossil fuels has forced the world to use energy efficiently. These days, it is being stressed to use the electrical power smartly so that energy does not go waste. And hence comes the concept of a Smart Grid. So it becomes necessary for reputed places of academics to develop the prototype of the same in their campus. National Institute of Technology (NIT) Rourkela intends to set up a 33KV Ring Main Distribution System including 33/0.433 KV substations in its campus. The present 11KV line will be discarded and replaced by the 33KV system. The main driving force behind this step by the management is to accommodate the stupendously increased power requirement of the institute. The above mentioned plan also includes, set up of Data Acquisition System (DAS) that intends to monitor the electrical equipment in the substations. This is being done not only to increase the accountability and reliability of the distribution system but also to encourage academic research in the distribution automation domain. All in all, an excellent step towards make the Grid, Smart. In this project work the focus is laid on getting load flow solution of the 33KV ring main system. Here the authors use a specialized algorithm for distribution network with high R/X value to obtain the load flow solution. Then using artificial neural networks computation, algorithms are implemented to do the load forecasting and dynamic tariff setting. At the end a Web Portal, the NITR e-Power Monitoring System is developed that will be an excellent interface to the public in general and will help the students of the institute to know their grid well. In short a conscious effort is put to make the grid more interactive

Demand and Storage Management in a Prosumer Nanogrid Based on Energy Forecasting

Energy efficiency and consumers' role in the energy system are among the strategic research topics in power systems these days. Smart grids (SG) and, specifically, microgrids, are key tools for these purposes. This paper presents a three-stage strategy for energy management in a prosumer nanogrid. Firstly, energy monitoring is performed and time-space compression is applied as a tool for forecasting energy resources and power quality (PQ) indices; secondly, demand is managed, taking advantage of smart appliances (SA) to reduce the electricity bill; finally, energy storage systems (ESS) are also managed to better match the forecasted generation of each prosumer. Results show how these strategies can be coordinated to contribute to energy management in the prosumer nanogrid. A simulation test is included, which proves how effectively the prosumers' power converters track the power setpoints obtained from the proposed strategy.Spanish Agencia Estatal de Investigacion ; Fondo Europeo de Desarrollo Regional

Short Term Electricity Forecasting Using Individual Smart Meter Data

AbstractSmart metering is a quite new topic that has grown in importance all over the world and it appears to be a remedy for rising prices of electricity. Forecasting electricity usage is an important task to provide intelligence to the smart gird. Accurate forecasting will enable a utility provider to plan the resources and also to take control actions to balance the electricity supply and demand. The customers will benefit from metering solutions through greater understanding of their own energy consumption and future projections, allowing them to better manage costs of their usage. In this proof of concept paper, our contribution is the proposal for accurate short term electricity load forecasting for 24hours ahead, not on the aggregate but on the individual household level

Enhancing smart home energy efficiency through accurate load prediction using deep convolutional neural networks

The method of predicting the electricity load of a home using deep learning techniques is called intelligent home load prediction based on deep convolutional neural networks. This method uses convolutional neural networks to analyze data from various sources such as weather, time of day, and other factors to accurately predict the electricity load of a home. The purpose of this method is to help optimize energy usage and reduce energy costs. The article proposes a deep learning-based approach for nonpermanent residential electrical energy load forecasting that employs temporal convolutional networks (TCN) to model historic load collection with timeseries traits and to study notably dynamic patterns of variants amongst attribute parameters of electrical energy consumption. The method considers the timeseries homes of the information and offers parallelization of large-scale facts processing with magnificent operational efficiency, considering the timeseries aspects of the information and the problematic inherent correlations between variables. The exams have been done using the UCI public dataset, and the experimental findings validate the method's efficacy, which has clear, sensible implications for setting up intelligent strength grid dispatching
