INFORMATION SYSTEM STRATEGY PLANNING RELAT-ED TO SEAM: A CASE STUDY OF EA AND DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION COMBINATION

    Get PDF
Inconsistency always occurs between digital transformation (DT) strategy and information system(IS)and enterprise architecture (EA) planning. This symptom leads to repeated investment, de-lay, or failure in DT projects. In addition, it will create leakages in DT value. Moreover, in the dy-namic digital environment, the inconsistency of between DT strategy and EA planning process is exacerbated due to dynamic business strategies. This paper applies SEAM and BPM theories to explore the scenario method for applying EA to DT strategies operation to explain inconsistent strategic planning symptoms and outline the DT-EA strategy planning integration process frame-work. The research method of this paper is multiple case studies, and the data collection sources include semi-structured interviews of 106 interviewees, material collection, literature comparison, and observation. By comparing four critical cases, this research shows the relationship between DT and EA and reveals the dysfunction in DT strategic implementation from the SEAM and BPM perspective. In practice, this research integrates DT and EA to provide a context method for enter-prise DT strategy planning design

Operational knowledge management:identification of knowledge objects, operation methods, and goals and means for the support function

Though much has been written about knowledge management, this field has not been described extensively from an operational management perspective. Consequently, knowledge management seems difficult to implement at the operational levels of the organisations. To solve this problem, the abstract notion of knowledge is translated in operational knowledge objects. These objects are the input and output of two operation methods: (1) transformation or learning; and (2) knowledge logistics. The article describes several activities of these operation methods, and gives a classification of operational goals and means for the operations support function. The author concludes with mentioning challenges for the field of operational knowledge managemen

Relationship analysis : improving the systems analysis process

    Get PDF
A significant aspect of systems analysis involves discovering and representing entities and their inter-relationships. Guidelines exist to identify entities but do not provide a rigorous and comprehensive process to explicitly capture the relationship structure of the problem domain. Whereas, other analysis techniques lightly address the relationship discovery process, Relationship Analysis is the only systematic, domain-independent analysis technique focusing exclusively on a domain\u27s relationship structure. The quality of design artifacts, such as class diagrams, and development time necessary to generate these artifacts can be improved by first representing the complete relationship structure of the problem domain. The Relationship Analysis Model is the first theory-based taxonomy to classify relationships. A rigorous evaluation was conducted, including a formal experiment comparing novice and experienced analysts with and without Relationship Analysis. It was shown that the Relationship Analysis Process based on the model does provide a fuller and richer systems analysis, resulting in improved quality of and reduced time in generating class diagrams. It also was shown that Relationship Analysis enables analysts of varying experience levels to achieve a similar level of quality of class diagrams. Relationship Analysis significantly enhances the systems analyst\u27s effectiveness, especially in the area of relationship discovery and documentation resulting in improved analysis and design artifacts

Compliance flow: an intelligent workflow management system to support engineering processes

    Get PDF
This work is about extending the scope of current workflow management systems to support engineering processes. On the one hand engineering processes are relatively dynamic, and on the other their specification and performance are constrained by industry standards and guidelines for the sake of product acceptability, such as IEC 61508 for safety and ISO 9001 for quality. A number of technologies have been proposed to increase the adaptability of current workflow systems to deal with dynamic situations. A primary concern is how to support open-ended processes that cannot be completely specified in detail prior to their execution. A survey of adaptive workflow systems is given and the enabling technologies are discussed. Engineering processes are studied and their characteristics are identified and discussed. Current workflow systems have been successfully used in managing "administrative" processes for some time, but they lack the flexibility to support dynamic, unpredictable, collaborative, and highly interdependent engineering processes. Improving Business Performance Through The Integration Of Human Factors Engineering Into Organizations Using A Systems Engineeri

Most organizations today understand the valuable contribution employees as people (rather than simply bodies) provide to their overall performance. Although efforts are made to make the most of the human in organizations, there is still much room for improvement. Focus in the reduction of employee injuries such as cumulative trauma disorders rose in the 80 s. Attempts at increasing performance by addressing employee satisfaction through various methods have also been ongoing for several years now. Knowledge Management is one of the most recent attempts at controlling and making the best use of employees knowledge. All of these efforts and more towards that same goal of making the most of people s performance at work are encompassed within the domain of the Human Factors Engineering/Ergonomics field. HFE/E provides still untapped potential for organizational performance as the human and its optimal performance are the reason for this discipline s being. Although Human Factors programs have been generated and implemented, there is still the need for a method to help organizations fully integrate this discipline into the enterprise as a whole. The purpose of this research is to develop a method to help organizations integrate HFE/E into it business processes. This research begun with a review of the ways in which the HFE/E discipline is currently used by organizations. The need and desire to integrate HFE/E into organizations was identified, and a method to accomplish this integration was conceptualized. This method consisted on the generation of two domain-specific ontologies (a Human Factors Engineering/Ergonomics ontology, and a Business ontology), and mapping the two creating a concept map that can be used to integrate HFE/E into businesses. The HFE/E ontology was built by generating two concept maps that were merged and then joined with a HFE/E discipline taxonomy. A total of four concept maps, two ontologies and a taxonomy were created, all of which are contributions to the HFE/E, and the business- and management-related fields

Best practices for publishing linked data
