The main activities of the digiFolio Project include: Building a common knowledge base supported by research work on the theory of portfolio usage; Paper and online publication of the results of the research work; Establishment of the pedagogical model for the training course; Analysis of the existing technological infrastructures for digital portfolio usage; Adjustment of the best tools and training course setup; Piloting and evidencing of the training course; Monitoring of the trainees' work by using a specific online teachers' support structure; International seminar. Website: http://digifolioseminar.org/?The present publication addresses the use of digital portfolios in educational context and it is one of the latest dissemination activities of the Digifolio project – Digital Portfolio as a strategy for teachers’ professional development, a COMENIUS 2.1 project which was carried out between 2005 and 2008. It involved several universities and teacher training institutions from five different European countries. The project, which main focus was the reflection on the potentialities of portfolios and digital technologies in the perspective of teachers’ professional development, came to its end with an international seminar which aimed at disseminating the work produced in the frame of a previous teachers training course, as well as allowing and welcoming the contribution of other education professionals with their practices and reflections on the above-mentioned thematic.Europeen Comissio

A Web and Mobile System for Environmental Decision Support

Current field data collection methods for many of today’s scientific and other observer/monitor type applications are still entrenched in the “clipboard age”, requiring manual data transcription to a database management system at some (often much) later date, and only allows for visualisation and analysis of recently captured field data “back in the lab”. This chapter is targeted at progressing today’s pen & paper methodology into the spatially enabled mobile computing age of realtime multi-media data input, integration, visualisation, and analysis simultaneously both in the field and the lab. The system described is customized to the specific needs of the Canadian Great Lakes Laboratory for Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences Fish Habitat Management Group requirements for fish species at risk assessment, but is ready for adaptation to other environmental agency applications (e.g. forestry, health-pesticide monitoring, agriculture, etc.). The chapter is ideally suited to all agencies responsible for collecting field data of any type that have not yet moved to a state-of-the-art mobile and wireless data collection, visualisation, and analysis work methodolog

Educational media resources are becoming increasingly popular. This actualizes the issues of identifying their role and significance in the educational process, typology, and classification of resources. The methodological basis of this study is an interdisciplinary approach. Based on a review of the literature, the constituent and functional components of an open digital educational environment are identified. The effects arising in the process of informatization of the educational environment are analyzed. It is proved that a new generation of educational media resources is formed as a result of the evolution of traditional learning management systems and their convergence with the principles of open education. This paper describes applications and online services designed to enrich the intellectual potential of participants in the educational process. The authors’ classification of educational media resources is presented in the study. The following characteristics were selected as the defining features for the classification of educational media resources: the technical form of resources, level of user training, user group, type of ownership, type of content, distribution technology, nature of user interaction, specifics. The main functions of an open multimedia educational environment are highlighted, which include compatibility and integration, personalization, analytics, collaboration, accessibility, and universal design. The opportunities for media resources in ensuring the continuity of modern education are revealed. General recommendations on the use of new media in the pedagogical process are given
