. A Thesis: English
Education Department, Graduate School, Sebelas Maret University, 2010.
The objectives of this research are to:
(
1
)
identify whether or not and to
what extent the use of “GPPPt” is able to improve the students’ speaking
competence; and
(
2
)
describe the situations when GPPPt is being applied in the
speaking class. In this research, the problem refers to the learning English,
especially their speaking competence which is still low.
The research methodology applied in this research is action research
with two cycles in which each cycle starts from planning, acting, observing, and
reflecting. The data collected are the qualitative data and the quantitative data.
The qualitative data are collected from observation, interview, questionnaire, and
document. The quantitative data are collected from the pre test in pre research and
the post test in Cycle 1 and Cycle 2. The qualitative data are analyzed by Constant
Comparative Method and the quantitative data are analyzed by descriptive
statistics.
The implementation of GPPPt has succeeded in improving and enhancing
the students’ English speaking competence. It could be seen from these indicators:
1
)
it is able to:
(
a
)
help the students to express their mind and ideas quickly;
(
b
)
help the students make sentence
(
s
)
fluently;
(
c
)
improve the students’
pronunciation to be relatively accepted;
(
d
)
influence the students to use correct
grammar to make sentence
(
s
)
; and
(
e
)
increase the students’ achievement in
speaking evaluation; and 2
)
it enables to:
(
a
)
reduce the students’ temptation to
have a chat with their desk mates;
(
b
)
respond the teacher’s questions actively;
(
c
)
influence the students to avoid doing non academic activities; and
(
d
)
motivate the
students to use either their dictionaries or grammar books in English class.
Besides, from the collected data, the students had obtained better score
from Cycle 1 to Cycle 2. For instance, the mean of pre test score of the pre
research was 66.76, while the mean of the post test score in Cycle 1 was 74.00 and
that of Cycle 2 was 77.64.
That the implementation of GPPPt has succeeded in improving and
enhancing the students’ English speaking competence, I would like to propose
some suggestions for the English teachers, especially those who teach in senior
high school to:
(
1
)
apply GPPPt to conduct the teaching learning process in the
speaking class;
(
2
)
improve their acquisition of knowledge about GPPPt; and
(
3
)
provide more chance for the students to practice their English orally through
GPPPt
E-mail and Direct Participation in Decision Making: A Literature Review
This paper reviews the literature on the effects of the use of e-mail on direct participation in decision making (PDM) in organisations. After a brief review of the organisational literature on participation the paper distinguishes e-mail theories on direct participation in three different theoretical perspectives. Then the paper focuses the attention on the role of e-mail in affecting task type, vertical and horizontal communication and their consequences for PDM. Finally the paper presents indications and open questions for future research.email, e-mail, decision making, participation in decision making, literature review,

THE ROLE OF ARCHITECTURE MODULARITY FOR BUSINESS PROCESS OUTSOURCING – DEVELOPING A RESEARCH MODEL
Recent developments force companies to rethink their value creation model and open themselves to other companies, which results in a shift from the traditional matrix or functional design to a more modular organization design. For example, even traditional banks open themselves and allow the ser-vices of specialized companies, to be integrated into their organization. Through this modular design, it is very easily possible to do it the other way around and conduct the outsourcing of certain business processes. The question that arises from this is whether and how the modularity of a firm’s architecture, consisting amongst others of the modularity of its business processes and its underlying IT support infrastructure, influences the incentive to outsource certain business processes. As a research-in-pro-gress paper, this manuscript develops a model of the multidimensional concept of modularity and links it causally to the determinants of a selective business process outsourcing (BPO) decision
Culture at the Edge: an Exploration of Cultural Adaptation and Sense-Making Across Workgroup Boundaries in Complex Organizations
The nature and conduct of relationships between functionally specialised workgroups in complex organization is explored in this dissertation. Interviews with twenty eight individuals and two entire workgroups from four large organizations are used as the basis for an experiential phenomenological study that seeks to understand the essences of the lived experience of being a member of such a workgroup. The situated outcomes of the phenomenological study are scrutinised in the light of the literatures of organizational theory, organizational communication theory, and social identity theory. These literatures are used as lenses to explore the possibility that problematic dimensions of intergroup relations might be diminished by the deployment of technology mediated communication channels between the groups concerned. The research finds that, with few exceptions, workgroup membership is a strong part of the individual's sense of social identity. This is consistent with the key elements of social identification theory and self-categorization theory. It also finds that the construction of stereotypes creating mutually oppositional beliefs of positive distinctiveness is unavoidable. Further, the research tends to confirm that individuals in workgroups believe that they are performing their allotted tasks as well as possible. Such beliefs are not necessarily consistent with the expectations of management, but they address issues related own self image and perceived role-performance. Although perceived issues of media richness associated with presently available technologies tend to undermine perceptions of technological solutions in the participant organizations, the research points to useful future opportunities for more effective selection and deployment of appropriate technologies as a basis for the conduct and management of intergroup relationships
Community Based Rehabilitation in the Dominican Republic: Efficacy of an Occupation-Based Training Program
The purpose of this study is to test the efficacy of an occupation-based training program for community rehabilitation workers (CRW) and parents of children with disabilities in the Dominican Republic. This training program focused on seating and positioning children with disabilities and specific occupations and activities that children can do while seated. Participants were recruited from Fundacion Cuidado Infantil Dominicano, a community-based rehabilitation program, which sends CRWs into the impoverished communities of the Dominican Republic to teach caregivers simple rehabilitation exercises and techniques in order to improve the individual\u27s function. The study\u27s research questions included: 1) Is this training program effective in increasing the knowledge-base of participants? 2) Do participant demographics correlate with the test scores? 3) Are the participants satisfied with the training program? The researcher utilized a pre-post-test design to measure the efficacy of this program in increasing participants\u27 knowledge of the seating and positioning training principles. In addition, participants completed satisfaction surveys for qualitative feedback on the program. Two months following the training program, participants responded to follow-up post-tests and satisfaction surveys to measure retention of the training material. Data analysis demonstrated a significant relationship between the change in test scores from the pre-test to the post-test, and the pre-test to the two-month follow-up test. Satisfaction surveys demonstrated that participants found the training program valuable and used the information from the training program with children with disabilities. These results demonstrate that the training program was effective in increasing knowledge of participants on occupation-based seating and positioning principles
Augmented Reality Advertisement on Android as A New Marketing Strategy (ReADroid)
Augmented Reality Advertisement on Android as A New Marketing Stategy is a
project to study the effectiveness of using augmented reality technology in marketing
strategy based on the prototype being developed called Augmented Reality
Advertisement on Android (ReADroid). ReADroid is an Android application for
chocolate based advertisement which animate when ttre smartphone camera is
pointed to the chocolate wrapper by using augmented reality (AR) approach. In the
conventional physical advertising method which mostly dull and static, viewer has
high tendency to ignore without gving any bodily responses towards the
advertisement. This problem leads to viewer difficulties to remember the
advertisement well. By creating and developing an interactive and engaging AR
advertising application, ReADroid ensure that half of the advertisement viewers
remember about the advertisement. As a little number of researches has been done to
investigate the effectiveness of AR advertisement, this project is contributing to the
evaluation on the usability and receptivity of users towards the AR advertisement.
Men and women between 15 to 35 years old are the main target goup that will b€
using ReADroid on their Android smartphone to see the AR chocolate based
advertisement on the chocolate wrapper. [n order to facilitate the requirement
changes, ReADroid development is based on the modified version of Waterfdl
Methodology Model called Sashimi Methodology Model. Based on the data
gathering and analysis, by using Qualcomm Augmented Reality (QCAR) as the AR
framework, together with unity 3D Pro, Blender and Android softrrare
Development Kit (SDK), ReADroid satisfy more than 50 respondents' needs by
allowing us€r to criticize or praise the advertised products directly at the
advertisement, play the garnes provided, view the promotion or visiting the advertiser
website. As conclusion, this interactive application will solve the ineffestiveness in
conventional physical advertisement, thus creating bigger plaform for business to
