Argumentation for machine learning: a survey
Existing approaches using argumentation to aid or improve machine learning differ in the type of machine learning technique they consider, in their use of argumentation and in their choice of argumentation framework and semantics. This paper presents a survey of this relatively young field highlighting, in particular, its achievements to date, the applications it has been used for as well as the benefits brought about by the use of argumentation, with an eye towards its future
Backscatter from the Data Plane --- Threats to Stability and Security in Information-Centric Networking
Information-centric networking proposals attract much attention in the
ongoing search for a future communication paradigm of the Internet. Replacing
the host-to-host connectivity by a data-oriented publish/subscribe service
eases content distribution and authentication by concept, while eliminating
threats from unwanted traffic at an end host as are common in today's Internet.
However, current approaches to content routing heavily rely on data-driven
protocol events and thereby introduce a strong coupling of the control to the
data plane in the underlying routing infrastructure. In this paper, threats to
the stability and security of the content distribution system are analyzed in
theory and practical experiments. We derive relations between state resources
and the performance of routers and demonstrate how this coupling can be misused
in practice. We discuss new attack vectors present in its current state of
development, as well as possibilities and limitations to mitigate them.Comment: 15 page
Denial of service attacks and challenges in broadband wireless networks
Broadband wireless networks are providing internet and related services to end users. The three most important broadband wireless technologies are IEEE 802.11, IEEE 802.16, and
Wireless Mesh Network (WMN). Security attacks and
vulnerabilities vary amongst these broadband wireless networks because of differences in topologies, network operations and physical setups. Amongst the various security risks, Denial of Service (DoS) attack is the most severe security threat, as DoS can compromise the availability and integrity of broadband
wireless network. In this paper, we present DoS attack issues in broadband wireless networks, along with possible defenses and future directions
Security and Privacy Issues in Wireless Mesh Networks: A Survey
This book chapter identifies various security threats in wireless mesh
network (WMN). Keeping in mind the critical requirement of security and user
privacy in WMNs, this chapter provides a comprehensive overview of various
possible attacks on different layers of the communication protocol stack for
WMNs and their corresponding defense mechanisms. First, it identifies the
security vulnerabilities in the physical, link, network, transport, application
layers. Furthermore, various possible attacks on the key management protocols,
user authentication and access control protocols, and user privacy preservation
protocols are presented. After enumerating various possible attacks, the
chapter provides a detailed discussion on various existing security mechanisms
and protocols to defend against and wherever possible prevent the possible
attacks. Comparative analyses are also presented on the security schemes with
regards to the cryptographic schemes used, key management strategies deployed,
use of any trusted third party, computation and communication overhead involved
etc. The chapter then presents a brief discussion on various trust management
approaches for WMNs since trust and reputation-based schemes are increasingly
becoming popular for enforcing security in wireless networks. A number of open
problems in security and privacy issues for WMNs are subsequently discussed
before the chapter is finally concluded.Comment: 62 pages, 12 figures, 6 tables. This chapter is an extension of the
