Distorted Fingerprint Verification System
Fingerprint verification is one of the most reliable personal identification methods. Fingerprint matching is affected by non-linear distortion introduced in fingerprint impression during the image acquisition process. This non-linear deformation changes both the position and orientation of minutiae. The proposed system operates in three stages: alignment based fingerprint matching, fuzzy clustering and classifier framework. First, an enhanced input fingerprint image has been aligned with the template fingerprint image and matching score is computed. To improve the performance of the system, a fuzzy clustering based on distance and density has been used to cluster the feature set obtained from the fingerprint matcher. Finally a classifier framework has been developed and found that cost sensitive classifier produces better results. The system has been evaluated on fingerprint database and the experimental result shows that system produces a verification rate of 96%. This system plays an important role in forensic and civilian applications.Biometric, Fingerprints, Distortion, Fuzzy Clustering, Cost Sensitive Classifier
Twofold Video Hashing with Automatic Synchronization
Video hashing finds a wide array of applications in content authentication,
robust retrieval and anti-piracy search. While much of the existing research
has focused on extracting robust and secure content descriptors, a significant
open challenge still remains: Most existing video hashing methods are fallible
to temporal desynchronization. That is, when the query video results by
deleting or inserting some frames from the reference video, most existing
methods assume the positions of the deleted (or inserted) frames are either
perfectly known or reliably estimated. This assumption may be okay under
typical transcoding and frame-rate changes but is highly inappropriate in
adversarial scenarios such as anti-piracy video search. For example, an illegal
uploader will try to bypass the 'piracy check' mechanism of YouTube/Dailymotion
etc by performing a cleverly designed non-uniform resampling of the video. We
present a new solution based on dynamic time warping (DTW), which can implement
automatic synchronization and can be used together with existing video hashing
methods. The second contribution of this paper is to propose a new robust
feature extraction method called flow hashing (FH), based on frame averaging
and optical flow descriptors. Finally, a fusion mechanism called distance
boosting is proposed to combine the information extracted by DTW and FH.
Experiments on real video collections show that such a hash extraction and
comparison enables unprecedented robustness under both spatial and temporal
attacks.Comment: submitted to Image Processing (ICIP), 2014 21st IEEE International

Visual identification by signature tracking
We propose a new camera-based biometric: visual signature identification. We discuss the importance of the parameterization of the signatures in order to achieve good classification results, independently of variations in the position of the camera with respect to the writing surface. We show that affine arc-length parameterization performs better than conventional time and Euclidean arc-length ones. We find that the system verification performance is better than 4 percent error on skilled forgeries and 1 percent error on random forgeries, and that its recognition performance is better than 1 percent error rate, comparable to the best camera-based biometrics
Secure Pick Up: Implicit Authentication When You Start Using the Smartphone
We propose Secure Pick Up (SPU), a convenient, lightweight, in-device,
non-intrusive and automatic-learning system for smartphone user authentication.
Operating in the background, our system implicitly observes users' phone
pick-up movements, the way they bend their arms when they pick up a smartphone
to interact with the device, to authenticate the users.
Our SPU outperforms the state-of-the-art implicit authentication mechanisms
in three main aspects: 1) SPU automatically learns the user's behavioral
pattern without requiring a large amount of training data (especially those of
other users) as previous methods did, making it more deployable. Towards this
end, we propose a weighted multi-dimensional Dynamic Time Warping (DTW)
algorithm to effectively quantify similarities between users' pick-up
movements; 2) SPU does not rely on a remote server for providing further
computational power, making SPU efficient and usable even without network
access; and 3) our system can adaptively update a user's authentication model
to accommodate user's behavioral drift over time with negligible overhead.
Through extensive experiments on real world datasets, we demonstrate that SPU
can achieve authentication accuracy up to 96.3% with a very low latency of 2.4
milliseconds. It reduces the number of times a user has to do explicit
authentication by 32.9%, while effectively defending against various attacks.Comment: Published on ACM Symposium on Access Control Models and Technologies

3-D Face Analysis and Identification Based on Statistical Shape Modelling
This paper presents an effective method of statistical shape representation for automatic face analysis and identification in 3-D. The method combines statistical shape modelling techniques and the non-rigid deformation matching scheme. This work is distinguished by three key contributions. The first is the introduction of a new 3-D shape registration method using hierarchical landmark detection and multilevel B-spline warping technique, which allows accurate dense correspondence search for statistical model construction. The second is the shape representation approach, based on Laplacian Eigenmap, which provides a nonlinear submanifold that links underlying structure of facial data. The third contribution is a hybrid method for matching the statistical model and test dataset which controls the levels of the model’s deformation at different matching stages and so increases chance of the successful matching. The proposed method is tested on the public database, BU-3DFE. Results indicate that it can achieve extremely high verification rates in a series of tests, thus providing real-world practicality
