A disruptive technology fundamentally transforming the way that computing services are delivered, cloud computing offers information and communication technology users a new dimension of convenience of resources, as services via the Internet. Because cloud provides a finite pool of virtualized on-demand resources, optimally scheduling them has become an essential and rewarding topic, where a trend of using Evolutionary Computation (EC) algorithms is emerging rapidly. Through analyzing the cloud computing architecture, this survey first presents taxonomy at two levels of scheduling cloud resources. It then paints a landscape of the scheduling problem and solutions. According to the taxonomy, a comprehensive survey of state-of-the-art approaches is presented systematically. Looking forward, challenges and potential future research directions are investigated and invited, including real-time scheduling, adaptive dynamic scheduling, large-scale scheduling, multiobjective scheduling, and distributed and parallel scheduling. At the dawn of Industry 4.0, cloud computing scheduling for cyber-physical integration with the presence of big data is also discussed. Research in this area is only in its infancy, but with the rapid fusion of information and data technology, more exciting and agenda-setting topics are likely to emerge on the horizon

Cloud computing is becoming very common in recent years and is growing rapidly due to its attractive benefits and features such as resource pooling, accessibility, availability, scalability, reliability, cost saving, security, flexibility, on-demand services, pay-per-use services, use from anywhere, quality of service, resilience, etc. With this rapid growth of cloud computing, there may exist too many users that require services or need to execute their tasks simultaneously by resources provided by service providers. To get these services with the best performance, and minimum cost, response time, makespan, effective use of resources, etc. an intelligent and efficient task scheduling technique is required and considered as one of the main and essential issues in the cloud computing environment. It is necessary for allocating tasks to the proper cloud resources and optimizing the overall system performance. To this end, researchers put huge efforts to develop several classes of scheduling algorithms to be suitable for the various computing environments and to satisfy the needs of the various types of individuals and organizations. Energy consumption in cloud computing occur due to the unreasonable way in which tasks are scheduled. So energy aware task scheduling is a major concern in cloud computing as energy consumption results into significant waste of energy, reduce the profit margin and also high carbon emissions which is not environmentally sustainable. Hence, energy efficient task scheduling solutions are required to attain variable resource management, live migration, minimal virtual machine design, overall system efficiency, reduction in operating costs, increasing system reliability, and prompting environmental protection with minimal performance overhead. This paper provides a comprehensive overview of the energy efficient techniques and approaches and proposes the energy aware resource utilization framework to control traffic in cloud networks and overloads

Novel Load Balancing Optimization Algorithm to Improve Quality-of-Service in Cloud Environment

Scheduling cloud resources calls for allocating cloud assets to cloud tasks. It is possible to improve scheduling outcomes by treating Quality of Service (QoS) factors as essential constraints. However, efficient scheduling calls for improved optimization of QoS parameters, and only a few resource scheduling algorithms in the available literature do so. The primary objective of this paper is to provide an effective method for deploying workloads to cloud infrastructure. To ensure that workloads are executed efficiently on available resources, a resource scheduling method based on particle swarm optimization was developed. The proposed method's performance has been measured in the cloud. The experimental results prove the efficiency of the proposed approach in reducing the aforementioned QoS parameters. Several metrics of algorithm performance are used to gauge how well the algorithm performs

Recently, Cloud computing has emerged as one of the widely used platforms to provide compute, storage and analytics services to end-users and organizations on a pay-as-you-use basis, with high agility, availability, scalability, and resiliency. This enables individuals and organizations to have access to a large pool of high processing resources without the need for establishing a high-performance computing (HPC) platform. From the past few years, task scheduling in Cloud computing is reckoned as eminent recourse for researchers. However, task scheduling is considered an NP-hard problem. In this research work, we investigate and empirically compare some of the most prominent state-of-the-art scheduling heuristics in terms of Makespan, Average resource utilization (ARUR), Throughput, and Energy consumption. The comparison is then extended by evaluating the approaches in terms of individual VM level load imbalance. After extensive simulation, the comparative analysis has revealed that Task Aware Scheduling Algorithm (TASA) and Proactive Simulation-based Scheduling and Load Balancing (PSSLB) outperformed as compared to the rest of the approaches and seems to be optimal choice keeping in view the trade-of between the complexities involved and the performance achieved concerning Makespan, Throughput, resource utilization, and Energy consumption

Delivering scalable and on-demand computing resources to users through the usage of the cloud has become a common paradigm. The issues of effective resource utilisation and application performance optimisation, however, become more pressing as the demand for cloud services rises. In order to ensure efficient resource allocation and improve application performance, load balancing techniques are essential in dispersing incoming network traffic over several servers. The workload balancing in the context of cloud computing, particularly in the Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) model, continues to be difficult. Due to available virtual machines and the limited resources, efficient job allocation is essential. To prevent prolonged execution delays or machine breakdowns, cloud service providers must maintain excellent performance and avoid overloading or underloading hosts. The importance of task scheduling in load balancing necessitates compliance with Service Level Agreement (SLA) standards established by cloud developers for consumers. The suggested technique takes into account Quality of Service (QoS) job parameters, VM priorities, and resource allocation in order to maximise resource utilisation and improve load balancing. The proposed load balancing method is in line with the results in the body of existing literature by resolving these problems and the current research gap. According to experimental findings, the Dynamic LBA algorithm currently in use is outperformed by an average resource utilisation of 78%. The suggested algorithm also exhibits excellent performance in terms of accelerated Makespan and decreased execution time
