    Rushes video summarization using a collaborative approach

    This paper describes the video summarization system developed by the partners of the K-Space European Network of Excellence for the TRECVID 2008 BBC rushes summarization evaluation. We propose an original method based on individual content segmentation and selection tools in a collaborative system. Our system is organized in several steps. First, we segment the video, secondly we identify relevant and redundant segments, and finally, we select a subset of segments to concatenate and build the final summary with video acceleration incorporated. We analyze the performance of our system through the TRECVID evaluation

    Propose shot boundary detection methods by using visual hybrid features

    Shot boundary detection is the fundamental technique that plays an important role in a variety of video processing tasks such as summarization, retrieval, object tracking, and so on. This technique involves segmenting a video sequence into shots, each of which is a sequence of interrelated temporal frames. This paper introduces two methods, where the first is for detecting the cut shot boundary via employing visual hybrid features, while the second method is to compare between them. This enhances the effectiveness of the performance of detecting the shot by selecting the strongest features. The first method was performed by utilizing hybrid features, which included statistics histogram of hue-saturation-value color space and grey level co-occurrence matrix. The second method was performed by utilizing hybrid features that include discrete wavelet transform and grey level co-occurrence matrix. The frame size decreased. This process had the advantage of reducing the computation time. Also used local adaptive thresholds, which enhanced the method’s performance. The tested videos were obtained from the BBC archive, which included BBC Learning English and BBC News. Experimental results have indicated that the second method has achieved (97.618%) accuracy performance, which was higher than the first and other methods using evaluation metrics

    Video shot boundary detection: seven years of TRECVid activity

    Shot boundary detection (SBD) is the process of automatically detecting the boundaries between shots in video. It is a problem which has attracted much attention since video became available in digital form as it is an essential pre-processing step to almost all video analysis, indexing, summarisation, search, and other content-based operations. Automatic SBD was one of the tracks of activity within the annual TRECVid benchmarking exercise, each year from 2001 to 2007 inclusive. Over those seven years we have seen 57 different research groups from across the world work to determine the best approaches to SBD while using a common dataset and common scoring metrics. In this paper we present an overview of the TRECVid shot boundary detection task, a high-level overview of the most significant of the approaches taken, and a comparison of performances, focussing on one year (2005) as an example

    Face detection and clustering for video indexing applications

    This paper describes a method for automatically detecting human faces in generic video sequences. We employ an iterative algorithm in order to give a confidence measure for the presence or absence of faces within video shots. Skin colour filtering is carried out on a selected number of frames per video shot, followed by the application of shape and size heuristics. Finally, the remaining candidate regions are normalized and projected into an eigenspace, the reconstruction error being the measure of confidence for presence/absence of face. Following this, the confidence score for the entire video shot is calculated. In order to cluster extracted faces into a set of face classes, we employ an incremental procedure using a PCA-based dissimilarity measure in con-junction with spatio-temporal correlation.     Automatic video analysis tools have dramatically increased in importance as the Internet video revolution has blossomed. This thesis presents an approach for automatic comparison of videos based on the inherent content. Also, an approach for creating groups (or clusters) of similar videos from a large video database is given; First, methods simplifying and summarizing the content of videos will be presented. Such methods include shot boundary detection and key frame feature extraction; Next, a comparison of different distance measures between videos will be given. These distance measures will be used to construct video clusters, and results will be compared
