An Algorithm for Data Reorganization in a Multi-dimensional Index

    Get PDF
In spatial databases, data are associated with spatial coordinates and are retrieved based on spatial proximity. A spatial database uses spatial indexes to optimize spatial queries. An essential ingredient for efficient spatial query processing is spatial clustering of data and reorganization of spatial data. Traditional clustering algorithms and reorganization utilities lack in performance and execution. To solve this problem we have developed an algorithm to convert a two dimensional spatial index into a single dimensional value and then a reorganization is done on the spatial data. This report describes this algorithm as well as various experiments to validate its effectiveness

Knowledge and Metadata Integration for Warehousing Complex Data

With the ever-growing availability of so-called complex data, especially on the Web, decision-support systems such as data warehouses must store and process data that are not only numerical or symbolic. Warehousing and analyzing such data requires the joint exploitation of metadata and domain-related knowledge, which must thereby be integrated. In this paper, we survey the types of knowledge and metadata that are needed for managing complex data, discuss the issue of knowledge and metadata integration, and propose a CWM-compliant integration solution that we incorporate into an XML complex data warehousing framework we previously designed.Comment: 6th International Conference on Information Systems Technology and its Applications (ISTA 07), Kharkiv : Ukraine (2007

A stochastic SIRI epidemic model with relapse and media coverage

    Get PDF
This work is devoted to investigate the existence and uniqueness of a global positive solution for a stochastic epidemic model with relapse and media coverage. We also study the dynamical properties of the solution around both disease-free and endemic equilibria points of the deterministic model. Furthermore, we show the existence of a stationary distribution. Numerical simulations are presented to confirm the theoretical results.Fondo Europeo de Desarrollo RegionalMinisterio de EconomĂa y CompetitividadConsejerĂa de InnovaciĂłn, Ciencia y Empresa (Junta de AndalucĂa)Faculty of Sciences (Ibn Tofail University

Designing and Implementing a Distributed Database for a Small Multi-Outlet Business

    Get PDF
Data is a fundamental and necessary element for businesses. During their operations they generate a certain amount of data that they need to capture, store, and later on retrieve when required. Databases provide the means to store and effectively retrieve data. Such a database can help a business improve its services, be more competitive, and ultimately increase its profits. In this paper, the system requirements of a distributed database are researched for a movie rental and sale store that has at least two outlets in different locations besides the main one. This project investigates the different stages of such a database, namely, the planning, analysis, decision, implementation and testing

Decision Tree Induction & Clustering Techniques In SAS Enterprise Miner, SPSS Clementine, And IBM Intelligent Miner A Comparative Analysis

    Get PDF
Decision tree induction and Clustering are two of the most prevalent data mining techniques used separately or together in many business applications. Most commercial data mining software tools provide these two techniques but few of them satisfy business needs.  There are many criteria and factors to choose the most appropriate software for a particular organization. This paper aims to provide a comparative analysis for three popular data mining software tools, which are SAS® Enterprise Miner, SPSS Clementine, and IBM DB2® Intelligent Miner based on four main criteria, which are performance, functionality, usability, and auxiliary Task Support

The End of Slow Networks: It's Time for a Redesign

Next generation high-performance RDMA-capable networks will require a fundamental rethinking of the design and architecture of modern distributed DBMSs. These systems are commonly designed and optimized under the assumption that the network is the bottleneck: the network is slow and "thin", and thus needs to be avoided as much as possible. Yet this assumption no longer holds true. With InfiniBand FDR 4x, the bandwidth available to transfer data across network is in the same ballpark as the bandwidth of one memory channel, and it increases even further with the most recent EDR standard. Moreover, with the increasing advances of RDMA, the latency improves similarly fast. In this paper, we first argue that the "old" distributed database design is not capable of taking full advantage of the network. Second, we propose architectural redesigns for OLTP, OLAP and advanced analytical frameworks to take better advantage of the improved bandwidth, latency and RDMA capabilities. Finally, for each of the workload categories, we show that remarkable performance improvements can be achieved

THE EFFECT OF USING BRAINSTORMING METHOD ON STUDENTS’ SPEAKING ACHIEVEMENT OF THE ELEVENTH YEAR STUDENTS OF SMK NEGERI 1 STABAT

    Get PDF
This study was conducted as an attempt to discover the effect of using brainstorming method on students’ speaking achievement. It was an experimental research. The subject was students of Grade XI, Vocational High School (Sekolah Kejuruan Atas: SMK Negeri 1 Stabat), which consisted of 72 students as a sample of this research. The research was divided into two groups: experimental and control groups. The instrument used to collect the data was oral test. The data were analyzed by using t-test formula. The analyze showed that the scores of the students in the experimental group were significantly higher than the scores of the students in the control group at the level of significance 0.05 with the degree of freedom (df) 70, t-observed value 4.7 > t-table value 1.99. The findings indicated that using Brainstorming Method significantly affected the students’ speaking achievement. So, English teachers are suggested to use Brainstorming method in order to improve students’ speaking achievement. Key words: brainstorming method, speaking achievemen
