A Framework for Computer Support in Managerial Decision Making
As with many growing computer areas, the first attempts at developing a framework for the field were based on the software tools being built and the specific tasks undertaken. This paper attempts to draw decision support systems out of these early stages by proposing a more generally applicable framework for computer decision support. To build this framework the paper first examines existing dimensions in decision support system frameworks and evaluates them both in their ability to facilitate communication among researchers and designers The dimension degree of decisionstructure (unstructured vs structured) is borrowed from existing frameworks and incorporated into a new framework along with the dimension phase of decision mal ng process (intelligence, design, and choice). The proposed framework is then evaluated by the same two criteria used earlier in the paper
Design of user interfaces for job shop environment
User-computer interface development has gone through rapid development in recent years. These developments, however, have not yet been fully implemented in management information system (MIS) design for job shop manufacturing situations. Most of the commercially available MISs are operationally inflexible and do not support management in report generation and decision making, particularly in job shops. This paper describes a framework in developing system user interfaces for job shop manufacturing situations to highlight how a generic information system can be made more useful to managerial decision making. Object-oriented programming technology has been used to provide flexible access to information stored by a generic MIS. Twenty interfacing programs have been developed. For illustration, only three of those interface programs relating to generation of strategic level management reports are discussed here.<br /
A Framework for Decision and Intelligence Systems based on Input and Output Types
In tracing the evolution of computer based Management Support Systems (MSS), three main generations or classes can be distinguished. These generations, in order of their emergence, may be identified as Data Management Systems (DMS), Information Management Systems IMS), and Knowledge Management Systems (KMS). The common objective among these three classes of systems is supporting managerial decision making. One distinguishing aspect among these three classes is the type of input and output (viz. data, information, and knowledge) that these systems handle, and consequently the level and the form of support that they provide. In this paper we explore these three classes of systems from an input-output perspective. In particular, this paper offers a framework for classifying MSS based on their input and output types, with particular focus on the input side. By developing an input-output based framework for current MSS, we hope to provide a foundation to develop an agenda for the next generation of MSS

A conceptual model for EAI adoption in an e-government environment
The non-integrated nature of Local Government Authority (LGA) Information Systems (IS) is
strongly associated with the inconsistency and duplication of data, reduction in data integrity and
quality, and high operational and maintenance cost. The reason is that legacy IS within the LGAs
are usually tailored to support particular business processes and functions and are as a
consequence usually difficult to integrate. This gives rise to a strong need for an integrated
architecture that facilitates reuse of existing applications and flexibly implementing business
processes across the functional boundaries within the LGAs. This paper examines a potentially
important area of IS integration in the United Kingdom (UK) LGAs through Enterprise
Application Integration (EAI) technology. A review of the literature indicates that EAI has been a
focal technology for several organisations in solving their integration problems. However, is new
in the LGAs; thus research literature around it is limited. Yet the effect of IS integration using
EAI technology remains under explored, as little research has been conducted to comprehend the
LGAs perception of integration that influences their decisions and actions. The author
demonstrates that it is of high importance to investigate this area within LGAs and result in
research that contributes towards successful EAI adoption. Therefore, resulting in the
development of a conceptual model that may be used to assist the government decision-making
process for EAI adoption in an electronic Government (e-Government) environment

A framework of justification criteria for advanced manufacturing technology implementation in small and medium enterprises
Today in order to stay in businesses and prosper, Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are seeking higher electiveness and competitiveness across the entire cycle of marketing, product design, manufacture, test and sales. SMEs play an increasingly important role in all aspects of competitiveness: both products and production techniques, but also management methods, the organization of the firm and human resources training. One of the ways by which SMEs can achieve a competitive advantage in manufacturing is through the implementation of Advanced Manufacturing Technology (AMT). An increasing number of them have chosen and are choosing various levels of AMT as the solution. HR Contribution to IT Innovation Implementation: Results of Three Case Studies
The theoretical and empirical investigation of information technologies (IT) innovation implementations reveals that they lack conceptual and practical support from HRM professionals. The HRM practices undertaken by HR professionals are not even discussed. We argue that HR departments should contribute to IT innovation projects by being responsible for explicitly defining job tasks that have to be automated, establishing a rewards system for those who have to learn and use a new technology and analysing the training needs of the users and providing them with adequate training. HRM should more actively intervene in IT innovation projects. Such intervention would, we believe, foster compatibility between the prior intentions of information technology, the strategies and practices, the individual users’ needs in it and the adoption of IT by the users
Analyzing the solutions of DEA through information visualization and data mining techniques: SmartDEA framework
Data envelopment analysis (DEA) has proven to be a useful tool for assessing efficiency or productivity of organizations, which is of vital practical importance in managerial decision making. DEA provides a significant amount of information from which analysts and managers derive insights and guidelines to promote their existing performances. Regarding to this fact, effective and methodologic analysis and interpretation of DEA solutions are very critical. The main objective of this study is then to develop a general decision support system (DSS) framework to analyze the solutions of basic DEA models. The paper formally shows how the solutions of DEA models should be structured so that these solutions can be examined and interpreted by analysts through information visualization and data mining techniques effectively. An innovative and convenient DEA solver, SmartDEA, is designed and developed in accordance with the proposed analysis framework. The developed software provides a DEA solution which is consistent with the framework and is ready-to-analyze with data mining tools, through a table-based structure. The developed framework is tested and applied in a real world project for benchmarking the vendors of a leading Turkish automotive company. The results show the effectiveness and the efficacy of the proposed framework
