    An Evaluation of Inter-Organizational Workflow Modelling Formalisms

    This paper evaluates the dynamic aspects of the UML in the context of inter-organizational workflows. Two evaluation methodologies are used. The first one is ontological and is based on the BWW (Bunge-Wand-Weber) models. The second validation is based on prototyping and consists in the development of a workflow management system in the aerospace industry. Both convergent and divergent results are found from the two validations. Possible enhancements to the UML formalism are suggested from the convergent results. On the other hand, the divergent results suggest the need for a contextual specification in the BWW models. Ce travail consiste en une évaluation des aspects dynamiques du language UML dans un contexte de workflow inter-organisationnel. Le choix du language par rapport à d'autres est motivé par sa richesse grammaticale lui offrant une très bonne adaptation à ce contexte. L'évaluation se fait par une validation ontologique basée sur les modèles BWW (Bunge-Wand-Weber) et par la réalisation d'un prototype de système de gestion de workflows inter-organisationnels. À partir des résultats convergents obtenus des deux différentes analyses, des améliorations au formalisme UML sont suggérées.     Mining Event Logs to Support Workflow Resource Allocation

    Workflow technology is widely used to facilitate the business process in enterprise information systems (EIS), and it has the potential to reduce design time, enhance product quality and decrease product cost. However, significant limitations still exist: as an important task in the context of workflow, many present resource allocation operations are still performed manually, which are time-consuming. This paper presents a data mining approach to address the resource allocation problem (RAP) and improve the productivity of workflow resource management. Specifically, an Apriori-like algorithm is used to find the frequent patterns from the event log, and association rules are generated according to predefined resource allocation constraints. Subsequently, a correlation measure named lift is utilized to annotate the negatively correlated resource allocation rules for resource reservation. Finally, the rules are ranked using the confidence measures as resource allocation rules. Comparative experiments are performed using C4.5, SVM, ID3, Na\"ive Bayes and the presented approach, and the results show that the presented approach is effective in both accuracy and candidate resource recommendations.Comment: T.     Discovering Process Reference Models from Process Variants Using Clustering Techniques

    In today's dynamic business world, success of an enterprise increasingly depends on its ability to react to changes in a quick and flexible way. In response to this need, process-aware information systems (PAIS) emerged, which support the modeling, orchestration and monitoring of business processes and services respectively. Recently, a new generation of flexible PAIS was introduced, which additionally allows for dynamic process and service changes. This, in turn, has led to large number of process and service variants derived from the same model, but differs in structures due to the applied changes. This paper provides a sophisticated approach which fosters learning from past process changes and allows for determining such process variants. As a result we obtain a generic process model for which the average distances between this model and the process variants becomes minimal. By adopting this generic process model in the PAIS, need for future process configuration and adaptation will decrease. The mining method proposed has been implemented in a powerful proof-of-concept prototype and further validated by a comparison between other process mining algorithms

    Äriprotsessi täiustamine aitab parandada lõppkasutaja kogemust, vähendada kulutusi ja kiirendada tööd. Eksisteerib mitmeid äriprotsessi täiustamise tehnikaid. Olemasolevate protsesside juures ei ole aga demonstreeritud muutuste mõju. Et täita see lünk, pakub antud lõputöö ülevaadet viisidest, kuidas demonstreerida äriprotsesside muutuste mõju päris elu näidete põhjal. Sel eesmärgil on tehtud süstemaatiline kirjanduse ülevaade artiklitest, mis kasutavad äriprotsesside täiustamist päris elu näidetes, et näha, kuidas need muutuseid on esitletud. Leitud artikleid analüüsiti ning leiti vastused uurimuse küsimustele. Analüüsi tulemusena leiti, et nagu igas teises teadusvaldkonnas, mis käsitleb muutusi, saab neid esitleda visuaalselt, numbriliselt või mitte- struktureeritud viisil, kasutates erinevaid esitlemise strateegiaid. Teadmine, kuidas antakse edasi asjade muutumist, aitab inimestel paremini aru saada nende sisust. Võimalik on paremini aru saada äriprotsesside muutustest.Business Process Improvement (BPI) has a big potential by helping to improve end-user satisfaction, to reduce costs and throughput times. A lot of business process improvement techniques exist, but they lack the information about the presentation of the effects of business process change. In order to fill this gap, this thesis provides an overview of the ways that are used to present the effects of business process change in real-life business process scenarios. For that purpose, a systematic literature review is performed to identify papers that apply BPI on real-life cases from industry to see what means are used to capture and present those changes. The identified final papers are analysed in order to answer to Research Questions (RQ). The analysis reveals that as in any other scientific field where change is occurring the change could be presented either visually, or in a numerical way, or in a not structured (narrative) way using some presentation strategies. This knowledge that gives some hints on how changes are conveyed can be used to support people to better understand the changes which occur in a process after a BPI
