CSP channels for CAN-bus connected embedded control systems
Closed loop control system typically contains multitude of sensors and actuators operated simultaneously. So they are parallel and distributed in its essence. But when mapping this parallelism to software, lot of obstacles concerning multithreading communication and synchronization issues arise. To overcome this problem, the CT kernel/library based on CSP algebra has been developed. This project (TES.5410) is about developing communication extension to the CT library to make it applicable in distributed systems. Since the library is tailored for control systems, properties and requirements of control systems are taken into special consideration. Applicability of existing middleware solutions is examined. A comparison of applicable fieldbus protocols is done in order to determine most suitable ones and CAN fieldbus is chosen to be first fieldbus used. Brief overview of CSP and existing CSP based libraries is given. Middleware architecture is proposed along with few novel ideas
The Iray Light Transport Simulation and Rendering System
While ray tracing has become increasingly common and path tracing is well
understood by now, a major challenge lies in crafting an easy-to-use and
efficient system implementing these technologies. Following a purely
physically-based paradigm while still allowing for artistic workflows, the Iray
light transport simulation and rendering system allows for rendering complex
scenes by the push of a button and thus makes accurate light transport
simulation widely available. In this document we discuss the challenges and
implementation choices that follow from our primary design decisions,
demonstrating that such a rendering system can be made a practical, scalable,
and efficient real-world application that has been adopted by various companies
across many fields and is in use by many industry professionals today

Ray: A Distributed Execution Engine for the Machine Learning Ecosystem
In recent years, growing data volumes and more sophisticated computational procedures have greatly increased the demand for computational power. Machine learning and artificial intelligence applications, for example, are notorious for their computational requirements. At the same time, Moores law is ending and processor speeds are stalling. As a result, distributed computing has become ubiquitous. While the cloud makes distributed hardware infrastructure widely accessible and therefore offers the potential of horizontal scale, developing these distributed algorithms and applications remains surprisingly hard. This is due to the inherent complexity of concurrent algorithms, the engineering challenges that arise when communicating between many machines, the requirements like fault tolerance and straggler mitigation that arise at large scale and the lack of a general-purpose distributed execution engine that can support a wide variety of applications. In this thesis, we study the requirements for a general-purpose distributed computation model and present a solution that is easy to use yet expressive and resilient to faults. At its core our model takes familiar concepts from serial programming, namely functions and classes, and generalizes them to the distributed world, therefore unifying stateless and stateful distributed computation. This model not only supports many machine learning workloads like training or serving, but is also a good t for cross-cutting machine learning applications like reinforcement learning and data processing applications like streaming or graph processing. We implement this computational model as an open-source system called Ray, which matches or exceeds the performance of specialized systems in many application domains, while also offering horizontally scalability and strong fault tolerance properties
Advanced photonic and electronic systems - WILGA 2017
WILGA annual symposium on advanced photonic and electronic systems has been organized by young scientist for young scientists since two decades. It traditionally gathers more than 350 young researchers and their tutors. Ph.D students and graduates present their recent achievements during well attended oral sessions. Wilga is a very good digest of Ph.D. works carried out at technical universities in electronics and photonics, as well as information sciences throughout Poland and some neighboring countries. Publishing patronage over Wilga keep Elektronika technical journal by SEP, IJET by PAN and Proceedings of SPIE. The latter world editorial series publishes annually more than 200 papers from Wilga. Wilga 2017 was the XL edition of this meeting. The following topical tracks were distinguished: photonics, electronics, information technologies and system research. The article is a digest of some chosen works presented during Wilga 2017 symposium. WILGA 2017 works were published in Proc. SPIE vol.10445
SPAD: a distributed middleware architecture for QoS enhanced alternate path discovery
In the next generation Internet, the network will evolve from a plain communication medium into one that provides endless services to the users. These services will be composed of multiple cooperative distributed application elements. We name these services overlay applications. The cooperative application elements within an overlay application will build a dynamic communication mesh, namely an overlay association. The Quality of Service (QoS) perceived by the users of an overlay application greatly depends on the QoS experienced on the communication paths of the corresponding overlay association. In this paper, we present SPAD (Super-Peer Alternate path Discovery), a distributed middleware architecture that aims at providing enhanced QoS between end-points within an overlay association. To achieve this goal, SPAD provides a complete scheme to discover and utilize composite alternate end-to end paths with better QoS than the path given by the default IP routing mechanisms
SMILE: Smart Monitoring IoT Learning Ecosystem
In industrial contexts to date, there are several solutions to monitor and intervene in case of anomalies and/or failures. Using a classic approach to cover all the requirements needed in the industrial field, different solutions should be implemented for different monitoring platforms, covering the required end-to-end. The classic cause-effect association process in the field of industrial monitoring requires thorough understanding of the monitored ecosystem and the main characteristics triggering the detected anomalies. In these cases, complex decision-making systems are in place often providing poor results. This paper introduces a new approach based on an innovative industrial monitoring platform, which has been denominated SMILE. It allows offering an automatic service of global modern industry performance monitoring, giving the possibility to create, by setting goals, its own machine/deep learning models through a web dashboard from which one can view the collected data and the produced results. Thanks to an unsupervised approach the SMILE platform can understand which the linear and non-linear correlations are representing the overall state of the system to predict and, therefore, report abnormal behavior
