    Adaptive NN State-Feedback Control for Stochastic High-Order Nonlinear Systems with Time-Varying Control Direction and Delays

    Nussbaum-type gain function and neural network (NN) approximation approaches are extended to investigate the adaptive statefeedback stabilization problem for a class of stochastic high-order nonlinear time-delay systems. The distinct features of this paper are listed as follows. Firstly, the power order condition is completely removed; the restrictions on system nonlinearities and time-varying control direction are greatly weakened. Then, based on Lyapunov-Krasovskii function and dynamic surface control technique, an adaptive NN controller is constructed to render the closed-loop system semiglobally uniformly ultimately bounded (SGUUB). Finally, a simulation example is shown to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme

    Adaptive Stabilization of Stochastic Nonlinear Systems Disturbed by Unknown Time Delay and Covariance Noise

    This paper considers a more general stochastic nonlinear time-delay system driven by unknown covariance noise and investigates its adaptive state-feedback control problem. As a remarkable feature, the growth assumptions imposed on delay-dependent nonlinear terms are removed. Then, with the help of Lyapunov-Krasovskii functionals and adaptive backstepping technique, an adaptive state-feedback controller is constructed by overcoming the negative effects brought by unknown time delay and covariance noise. Based on the designed controller, the closed-loop system can be guaranteed to be globally asymptotically stable (GAS) in probability. Finally, a simulation example demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed scheme

    This paper addresses the problem of adaptive output-feedback control for more general class of stochastic time-varying delay nonlinear systems with unknown control coefficients and perturbations. By using Lyapunov–Krasovskii functional, backstepping and tuning function technique, a novel adaptive neural network (NN) output-feedback controller is constructed with fewer learning parameters. The designed controller guarantees that all the signals in the closed-loop system are 4-moment (or mean square) semi-globally uniformly ultimately bounded (SGUUB). Finally, a simulation example is shown to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme

    Finite-Time Composite Position Control for a Disturbed Pneumatic Servo System

    This paper investigates the finite-time position tracking control problem of pneumatic servo systems subject to hard nonlinearities and various disturbances. A finite-time disturbance observer is firstly designed, which guarantees that the disturbances can be accurately estimated in a finite time. Then, by combining disturbances compensation and state feedback controller together, a nonsmooth composite controller is developed based on sliding mode control approach and homogeneous theory. It is proved that the tracking errors under the proposed composite control approach can be stabilized to zero in finite time. Moreover, compared with pure state feedback control, the proposed composite control scheme offers a faster convergence rate and a better disturbance rejection property. Finally, numerical simulations illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme

    Analysis of Embedded Controllers Subject to Computational Overruns

    Microcontrollers have become an integral part of modern everyday embedded systems, such as smart bikes, cars, and drones. Typically, microcontrollers operate under real-time constraints, which require the timely execution of programs on the resource-constrained hardware. As embedded systems are becoming increasingly more complex, microcontrollers run the risk of violating their timing constraints, i.e., overrunning the program deadlines. Breaking these constraints can cause severe damage to both the embedded system and the humans interacting with the device. Therefore, it is crucial to analyse embedded systems properly to ensure that they do not pose any significant danger if the microcontroller overruns a few deadlines.However, there are very few tools available for assessing the safety and performance of embedded control systems when considering the implementation of the microcontroller. This thesis aims to fill this gap in the literature by presenting five papers on the analysis of embedded controllers subject to computational overruns. Details about the real-time operating system's implementation are included into the analysis, such as what happens to the controller's internal state representation when the timing constraints are violated. The contribution includes theoretical and computational tools for analysing the embedded system's stability, performance, and real-time properties.The embedded controller is analysed under three different types of timing violations: blackout events (when no control computation is completed during long periods), weakly-hard constraints (when the number of deadline overruns is constrained over a window), and stochastic overruns (when violations of timing constraints are governed by a probabilistic process). These scenarios are combined with different implementation policies to reduce the gap between the analysis and its practical applicability. The analyses are further validated with a comprehensive experimental campaign performed on both a set of physical processes and multiple simulations.In conclusion, the findings of this thesis reveal that the effect deadline overruns have on the embedded system heavily depends the implementation details and the system's dynamics. Additionally, the stability analysis of embedded controllers subject to deadline overruns is typically conservative, implying that additional insights can be gained by also analysing the system's performance

These problems seem to be especially significant for the further development of marine transportation services, with the need to considerably increase their efficiency and reliability. One of the most commonly used approaches to ensuring safety and efficiency is the wide implementation of various automated systems for guidance and control, including such popular systems as marine autopilots, dynamic positioning systems, speed control systems, automatic routing installations, etc. This Special Issue focuses on various problems related to the analysis, design, modelling, and operation of the aforementioned systems. It covers such actual problems as tracking control, path following control, ship weather routing, course keeping control, control of autonomous underwater vehicles, ship collision avoidance. These problems are investigated using methods such as neural networks, sliding mode control, genetic algorithms, L2-gain approach, optimal damping concept, fuzzy logic and others.
