The Run Transform

We consider the transform from sequences to triangular arrays defined in terms of generating functions by f(x) -> (1-x)/(1-xy) f(x(1-x)/(1-xy)). We establish a criterion for the transform of a nonnegative sequence to be nonnegative, and we show that the transform counts certain classes of lattice paths by number of "pyramid ascents", as well as certain classes of ordered partitions by number of blocks that consist of increasing consecutive integers.Comment: 18 page

Donaghey's transformation: carousel effects and tame components

Изучается динамическая система, действующая на комбинаторных интерпретациях чисел Каталана. Описаны два новых карусельных эффекта (для триад и ростков), первый из которых использован для перехода от локального свойства деревьев (отсутствие триад определённых типов) к некоторым глобальным свойствам орбит. Показано, что отмеченный эффект носит массовый характер. Построено несколько новых ручных классов орбит, в том числе не только с постоянными длинами орбит, но и с растущими как 0(n2). Решены соответствующие перечислительные задачи

A Bijection on Dyck Paths and its Cycle Structure

The known bijections on Dyck paths are either involutions or have notoriously intractable cycle structure. Here we present a size-preserving bijection on Dyck paths whose cycle structure is amenable to complete analysis. In particular, each cycle has length a power of 2. A new manifestation of the Catalan numbers as labeled forests crops up en route as does the Pascal matrix mod 2. We use the bijection to show the equivalence of two known manifestations of the Motzkin numbers. Finally, we consider some statistics on the new Catalan manifestation and the identities they interpret.
