    A 3D serious game for dental learning in higher education

    Natural User Interfaces and advanced displays can be combined to provide rich learning experiences. In this paper, we present the development and validation of a serious game that combines autostereoscopy and Natural User Interfaces for dental learning in higher education. The game includes two modes: neutral and real-world background. A comparative study to check different aspects was carried out. A total of 33 dentistry students participated in the study. From the results, the students increased significantly their knowledge about teeth morphology. Most of the students preferred the neutral background for dental learning. The real-world background was identified as being more suitable for leisure activities

    Using a serious game to assess spatial memory in children and adults

    Short-term spatial memory has traditionally been assessed using visual stimuli, but not auditory stimuli. In this paper, we design and test a serious game with auditory stimuli for assessing short-term spatial memory. The interaction is achieved by gestures (by raising your arms). The auditory stimuli are emitted by smart devices placed at different locations. A total of 70 participants (32 children and 38 adults) took part in the study. The outcomes obtained with our game were compared with traditional methods. The results indicated that the outcomes in the game for the adults were significantly greater than those obtained by the children. This result is consistent with the assumption that the ability of humans increases continuously during maturation. Correlations were found between our game and traditional methods, suggesting its validity for assessing spatial memory. The results indicate that both groups easily learn how to perform the task and are good at recalling the locations of sounds emitted from different positions. With regard to satisfaction with our game, the mean scores of the children were higher for nearly all of the questions. The mean scores for all of the questions, except one, were greater than 4 on a scale from 1 to 5. These results show the satisfaction of the participants with our game. The results suggest that our game promotes engagement and allows the assessment of spatial memory in an ecological way

    Hoy en día, las personas interactúan con las nuevas tecnologías porque con ellas pueden hacer cosas que nunca pudieron hacer hace quince o veinte años. Una de esas cosas es estudiar usando Internet o libros electrónicos, pero incluso con este progreso tenemos una falta de información. ¿Por qué? Porque pocas tecnologías tienen en cuenta los diferentes aspectos del usuario. Como ejemplo, Endodontics tiene una gran variedad de objetos de aprendizaje que los estudiantes pueden utilizar para apoyar su proceso de aprendizaje, pero esas tecnologías no tienen en cuenta los estilos de aprendizaje, el conocimiento o el rendimiento del alumno que está teniendo en su proceso. Por esa razón, decidimos crear un objeto de aprendizaje virtual con respecto a los estilos de aprendizaje, el proceso de aprendizaje y el rendimiento del alumno en Endodoncia.Nowadays, people interact with new technologies because with it they can do things that were never able to do fifteen or twenty years ago. One of those things is studying using internet or eBooks but even with this progress we have got a lack of information. Why? Because few technologies take in account different user's aspects. As an instance, Endodontics has a great variety of learning objects which students can use to support their learning process but those technologies do not consider student’s learning styles, knowledge or the performance that he / she is having in his / her process.
