Lipides et trafic : rĂŽles de GBF1, facteur d’échange de la petite protĂ©ine G Arf1

The eukaryotic cell physically separates its functions within several membrane-bound organelles, which communicate using vesicles. Vesicular trafficking is under the control of small GTPases that exist as an inactive GDP-bound form and an active GTP-bound form. The switch between GDP and GTP is catalyzed by a guanine nucleotide exchange factor (GEF). On cis-Golgi membranes, Arf1, activated by the large GEF GBF1, recruits the COPI coat. COPI coated vesicles ensure the retrograde transport from the Golgi to the ER. Recently, GBF1 has been implicated in other pathways, such as the life cycle of various viruses and lipid droplet metabolism.Lipid droplets (LD), the major lipid storage organelle, play a major role in lipid homeostasis within the cell. LDs are connected to membrane trafficking and are therefore under the control of GTPases. In previous studies, our team showed that GBF1 localizes around LDs and that it is required for protein loading onto the LD surface. Here, data support the idea that GBF1 localizes to the LD surface. Using cell biology tools and microscopy, we identified, within GBF1, a lipid binding domain. In this domain, a single amphipathic helix is necessary and sufficient for LD targeting in cells. The regulation of GBF1 localization relies on interaction with Rab1 (data support a Rab1-Arf1 cascade between the ER and the Golgi) and on intramolecular interactions between GBF1 domains.

Organic Agriculture and Innovative Crops under Mediterranean Conditions

    Get PDF
Climate change is the greatest environmental threat facing humanity worldwide. Areas of South-East Europe and Mediterranean basin are expected to be among the most vulnerable countries to climate change. As a result of climate change, new species and crops have been introduced and may be introduced in the coming years. In addition, FAO considers that Organic Agriculture is an effective mitigation strategy to climate change and can build robust soils that adapt better to weather extremes associated with climate change. This review provides an overview of the growth performance of new innovative crops, including chia, camelina, quinoa, teff and nigella and retrovative crops such as flax and emmer wheat, based on experimental investigations conducted under Mediterranean conditions and organic cropping system. Several studies, performed under organic system, have proved that innovative crops can also be grown for alternative uses. Quinoa and chia could be successfully used in animal feed. Moreover, quinoa could be exploited as a medicinal plant due to saponins extracted from seed coats. Nigella and camelina seeds contain oils which can have several uses in pharmaceutical and food industries. Flax seed oil is rich in omega-3 fatty acids and can be accepted in the diets designed for specific health benefits. According to the literature, it is observed that innovative crops cultivated under organic system present better quality and similar yields as with those cultivated under conventional system, and in some cases, even higher. Taking all these into account, organic agriculture could also be characterized as innovative and not only as traditional

Within the ADER 1.2.1. project’s multifactorial trials established at A.R.D.S. Simnic – Craiova for the sunflower and corn crops, there were studied the yield’s interrelations between three hybrids for each one of the cultivars (Sandrina, Fundulea 911 and Fundulea 708 for the sunflower crop and Mostistea, Iezer and F 475 M for the corn crop), three different sowing periods (early period - 31.03.2014, optimum - 15.04.2014 and late period - 08.05.2014) and three plant densities (30.000; 50.000 and 70.000 plants/ha)

Royal manuscript patronage in late Ducal Normandy? A context for the female patron portrait of the “Fecamp Psalter” (c. 1180)

    Get PDF
The “Fecamp Psalter” is an illuminated manuscript created in the Norman abbey of the same name, around the year 1180. The psalter contains a portrait of its patron, kneeled and in a prayer pose towards the “Beatus vir” page. This person can be identified with certainty, as a high-ranking woman of the Angevin state. Her appearance, the position of her portrait in the manuscript, together with related contemporary examples of pictorial arts will permit us to shed light on her identity. The study of this artistic commission will allow us to better understand processes of patronage between individuals and monastic houses in twelfth-century Europe, as well as to approach the concepts of female self-awareness and biblical pre-figuration in medieval art

Lean process management implementation through enhanced problem solving capabilities

All Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) organizations in Aerospace, Automotive and Electronics industries had to upgrade their functions. These organizations including suppliers and solutions providers are duty bound to improve their functions through strategic initiatives. One such initiative is Lean Process Management. Lean Process Management has proven to aid organizations in developing manufacturing and administrative management solutions and make the organization a leaner at the same time a ‘fitter’ one, achieving World Class standards in terms of production, quality, marketing, etc, etc. The issue or problem is, although a number of authors, experts, researchers have discussed the lean process management as part organization centric issues, they failed to provide an effective lean process management system. Besides the need to formulate an effective lean process as suggested by some authors, another important reason suggested is the employee’s development aspect regarding how to unlock the infinite potential of their workforce. This employee’s development is basically the problem solving capabilities of the employees while implementing the Lean through clear cutting protocols or processes of Lean Process Management. The employees need to be developed and equipped to contribute optimally to the process. Because of this scenario, the main objective of this study is to develop an employees development system which the author has acronym or trademark it as People Development System (PDS) to enhance problem solving capability among its employees while implementing the lean process management there. Although, the PDS can be implemented throughout the organization, if it is implemented in a particular department in an organization, it will be feasible to study and analyze its effectiveness in-depth. So, this study documents and analyzes the implementation of Lean process in the Kitting Department of the aerospace company, ABC Company. Qualitative and quantitative measures were also used to document the case study. The outcome of the people development system needs to be measured to understand its value in developing the problem solving capabilities among the employees. Only with developed and equipped employees, the Kitting Department can reduce its wastages, optimize its performance and thereby play a crucial role in making ABC Company a world class organization. As pertinent results of the PDS implementation, in general Kitting Department successfully achieved to meet their Department Key Performance Indicator and particularly the employees’ are also improve by practicing good lean behaviors and skill and knowledge in using lean tools which lead to better leanness level by improving employees’ problem solving capabilities in eliminating waste. On the whole, the lean process management and the resultant PDS is having positive applications, and importantly could also have positive applications in the future as well.Peer Reviewe
