    Reconclining phi radiative decays with other data for a0(980), fo(980), pi-pi -> KK and pi-pi -> eta-eta

    Full text link
    Data for phi -> gamma (eta-pizero) are analysed using the KK loop model and compared with parameters of a0(980) derived from Crystal Barrel data. The eta-pi mass spectrum agrees closely and the absolute normalisation lies just within errors. However, BES parameters for fo(980) predict a normalisation for phi -> gamma (pizero-pizero) at least a factor 2 lower than is observed. This discrepancy may be eliminated by including constructive interference between fo(980) and sigma. The magnitude required for sigma -> KK is consistent with data on pi-pi -> KK. A dispersion relation analysis by Buttiker, Descotes-Genon and Moussallam of pi-pi -> KK leads to a similar conclusion. Data on pi-pi -> eta-eta also require decays of sigma to eta-eta. Four sets of pi-pi -> KK data all require a small but definite fo(1370) signal.Comment: 21 pages, 11 figures, Small rearrangement of reference

    Turning inside out?: Globalization, neo-liberalism and welfare states

    No full text
    Apocalyptic accounts of globalization bringing about the end of the welfare state (and the nation state) have been countered by political-institutionalist views of adaptation. Such views treat globalization as an external force, or pressure, rather than a set of processes that are also internalized within nations. I argue that a more differentiated view of globalization can reveal how it has unsettled welfare state/nation-state formations. In the process, taken-for-granted meanings and boundaries of nation-state-welfare have been destabilized. I conclude by suggesting that these processes have made citizenship a distinctive focus of political tensions and conflicts

    New result on the measurement of the direct photon emission in K+ --> pi^+ pi^0 gamma decay

    Full text link
    We present a new result on the K^+ --> pi^+ pi^0 gamma decay measurement using stopped kaons. The best fit to the decay spectrum comprised of 10k events gives a branching ratio for the direct photon emission of [3.8+-0.8(stat)+-0.7(syst)] times 10^{-6} in the pi^+ kinetic energy region of 55 to 90 MeV. This result has been obtained with the assumption that there is no component due to interference with the inner bremsstrahlung.Comment: 14 pages, 7 figures, 3 tables (Fig.1 which had problems with uploading first time is replaced. Proyek Akhir ini bertujuan untuk merancang, membuat dan menguji sistem kontrol sorting barang berdasarkan warna berbasis PLC Festo FC 440. PLC Festo FC 440 digunakan sebagai kontrol pemisahan barang secara otomatis berdasarkan warna benda. Sistem ini dikembangkan dari alat yang sudah ada, Metode yang digunakan dalam membangun unit sorting barang berdasarkan warna berbasis PLC Festo FC 440 adalah metode rancang bangun yang terdiri dari beberapa tahap yaitu, (1) Identifikasi kebutuhan, (2) Analisis Kebutuhan, (3) Perancangan perangkat keras dan perangkat lunak, (4) Pembuatan dan (5) Pengujian. Unit sorting barang berdasarkan warna berbasis PLC Festo FC 440 terdiri dari perangkat keras dan perangkat lunak. Untuk perangkat keras terdiri dari: catu daya, PLC Festo FC 440, sensor warna, motor DC, dan mekanik konveyor yang disesuaikan. Sedangkan untuk parangkat lunak terdiri dari pemrograman FST Version 4.2 dengan bahasa pemrograman statement list. Teknik analisis data dilakukan dengan mengukur tegangan keluaran dari masing-masing rangkaian, hasil pengujian LCD, hasil sensor warna dari obyek berwarna, merah, silver, hitam, tanpa obyek, dan pengujian sorting gate. Hasil pengujian dan unjuk kerja unit sorting barang berdasarkan warna berbasis PLC Festo FC 440 telah menunjukkan hasil yang sesuai dengan yang diharapkan. Kebenaran sensor warna untuk benda kerja dengan warna merah sebesar 100%, warna silver sebesar 80%, warna hitam sebesar 100%. Untuk tampilan LCD kebenarannya mencapai 100% untuk warna merah, warna silver sebesar 100%, warna hitam sebesar 100% dan tanpa obyek sebesar 100%

    Entrepreneurial Students at the University of Worcester: Five Case Studies.

    Get PDF
    Since 2004 the University of Worcester has operated an Enterprise Calendar of events that seek to inform and inspire staff and students to engage in entrepreneurial activities. Over 830 individuals have engaged in our annual Enterprise Festival, Enterprise Training workshops, Business Ideas Competition ('BizCom'), Worcester Innovators Network ('WIN') – our student enterprise society – and Student Placements for Entrepreneurs in Education ('SPEED'). All of these activities have been funded by the Higher Education Funding Council for England through their Higher Education Innovation Fund. These case studies consider the effect and impact of this programme of support upon a diverse selection of entrepreneurial students

    Publicly Accessible Toilets: An Inclusive Design Guide

    Get PDF
    This guide has been developed from an inclusive design philosophy. It aims to incorporate the needs, aspirations and desires of people of all ages, abilities and ethnicities, who will become the future users of its design outcomes. ‘Publicly accessible toilets’ refers to all toilets that the public can access without having to buy anything. This includes those in shopping centres, parks and transport hubs, as well as the public toilets and community toilet schemes provided by the local authority

    Teaching with wikis: addressing the digital divide

    Get PDF
    This paper addresses some aspects of the digital divide affecting teachers and learners in higher education. These relate to divisions arising from variable rates of technology adoption by teachers, which may be especially problematic when students’ uptake of technology is much more rapid than those who teach them, and also to divisions within the student body which teachers need to accommodate when they plan the design of learning. To address these divisions, we designed a pilot online workshop to prepare a small group of teaching staff at two Australian universities for using wikis in teaching and assessment. Participants were immersed in the experience of collaborating on a project in a wiki as learners, and then asked to reflect on this experience as teachers. We used a participatory action research approach with a view to developing a community of enquiry to investigate this experience for improving future offerings, and informing the participants’ teaching practice. This paper reports on the professional development effort, reflecting on the successes and limitations of the work, and lessons learned in relation to bridging the above aspects of the digital divide. We then comment on the potential for further development in the context of the evolution of learning technology as a research discipline
