From 21.03. to 26.03.2010, the Dagstuhl Seminar 10121 ``Computational Transportation Science \u27\u27 was held in Schloss Dagstuhl~--~Leibniz Center for Informatics. During the seminar, several participants presented their current research, and ongoing work and open problems were discussed. Abstracts of the presentations given during the seminar as well as abstracts of seminar results and ideas are put together in this paper. The first section describes the seminar topics and goals in general. Links to extended abstracts or full papers are provided, if available

INDEMICS: An Interactive High-Performance Computing Framework for Data Intensive Epidemic Modeling

We describe the design and prototype implementation of Indemics (_Interactive; Epi_demic; _Simulation;)—a modeling environment utilizing high-performance computing technologies for supporting complex epidemic simulations. Indemics can support policy analysts and epidemiologists interested in planning and control of pandemics. Indemics goes beyond traditional epidemic simulations by providing a simple and powerful way to represent and analyze policy-based as well as individual-based adaptive interventions. Users can also stop the simulation at any point, assess the state of the simulated system, and add additional interventions. Indemics is available to end-users via a web-based interface. Detailed performance analysis shows that Indemics greatly enhances the capability and productivity of simulating complex intervention strategies with a marginal decrease in performance. We also demonstrate how Indemics was applied in some real case studies where complex interventions were implemented

Assessing the Impact of Potential Bridge Collapse on Road Network Vulnerability: a Case Study in Oklahoma

is study applied three different measures, which are unweighted increased travel time, increased travel time weighted by traffic flow, and decreased accessibility of cities, to assess the importance of unsafe highway bridges in Oklahoma, United States. The aim of this study is to rank the unsafe highway bridges in Oklahoma using all of the three methods. The results of this study may be suggestive for the determination of periodization of highway bridge maintenance. This study ranked the unsafe highway bridges in Oklahoma using three different methods, which are unweighted increased travel time, increased travel time weighted by traffic flow, and decreased accessibility of cities. Each method focuses on different perspectives of the highway performance. The results can provide useful information for the state and city transportation planners by pointing out the critical bridges that may have the highest negative impact to the state and cities if fail.Department of Geograph
