Temple Grandin fonds, 1974-2006 (non-inclusive)
Temple Grandin was born in Boston, Massachusetts on August 29,1947 to Richard Grandin and Eustacia Cutler. She was diagnosed with autism at age 2. She suffered from delayed speech development and did not begin to speak until the age of 4. Temple’s mother defied the doctors and kept her out of institutions. Temple was given speech therapy as well as an intensive education. Her high school science teacher and her aunt on a ranch in Arizona inspired Temple to continue her studies and pursue a career as a scientist and livestock equipment designer. She graduated from Hampshire Country School (a boarding school for gifted children) in Ridge, New Hampshire in 1966, and earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Franklin Pierce College in 1970.
In 1975, she received a master’s degree in animal science from Arizona State University and then a doctoral degree in animal science from the University of Illinois in 1989. She is currently a professor at Colorado State University. Dr. Grandin is one of the world’s leaders in the design of livestock handling facilities. She has done extensive work in design of handling facilities for animals and has developed animal welfare guidelines for the meat industries. Dr. Grandin is a past member of the board of directors of the Autism
Society of America. She lectures to parents and teachers throughout the U.S. on her experiences with autism. She makes the case that the world
needs people on the autism spectrum: visual thinkers, pattern thinkers and verbal thinkers.
Some of Temple Grandin’s books include: Animals Make Us Human, Animals in Translation, The Way I See It, The Autistic Brain, and Different…Not Less. In 2010, a movie entitled “Temple Grandin” starring Clare Danes was released. The movie was based on Grandin’s own writings.
Temple Grandin is an expert on animal behavior, a bestselling author,
and an autism activist. In 2010, she was listed in the “Heroes” category
in the “Time” list of the world’s 100 most influential people. She has
received numerous awards including an honorary doctorate from McGill, the University of Illinois and Duke University. Temple Granin is a philosophical leader of both the animal welfare and autism advocacy movements.

The U.S. establishment-size distribution: secular changes and sectoral decomposition
This article studies the U.S. establishment-size distribution from 1974–2006. The main findings are: (i) the size of the “representative” establishment is relatively constant; (ii) the size distribution has become slightly more evenly distributed; (iii) the relative stability of aggregate statistics obscures important movements in the manufacturing and service sectors; (iv) both intra- and intersector changes contribute to aggregate changes; and (v) changes in the size distribution of firms are similar to those of establishments. These findings will be useful to calibrate and test models with firms/establishments heterogeneity.Labor market
In 1974 – 2006, in Lugansk region 4 outbreaks of Diprion pini L. and 5 outbreaks of Neodiprion sertifer Geoffr. were registered. The years of beginning and collapse of outbreaks are different in the forests of different forestries and forest enterprises. Outbreaks of the both sawflies developed synchronously in 1996 – 1998 and 2002 – 2006. Intensity and duration of N. sertifer outbreaks increased comparing with outbreaks of 70-th and 80-th

Sun-as-a-Star Spectrum Variations 1974-2006
We have observed selected Fraunhofer lines, both integrated over the Full
Disk and for a small circular region near the center of the solar disk, on
1,215 days for the past 30 years. Full Disk results: Ca II K 393 nm nicely
tracks the 11 year magnetic cycle based on sunspot number with a peak amplitude
in central intensity of ~37%. The wavelength of the mid-line core absorption
feature, called K3, referenced to nearby photospheric Fe, displays an activity
cycle variation with an amplitude of 3 milli-Angstroms. Other chromospheric
lines track Ca II K intensity with lower relative amplitudes. Low photosphere:
Temperature sensitive CI 5380 nm appears constant in intensity to 0.2%. High
photosphere: The cores of strong Fe I lines, Na D1 and D2, and the Mg I b
lines, present a puzzling signal perhaps indicating a role for the 22 y Hale
cycle. Solar minimum around 1985 was clearly seen, but the following minimum in
1996 was missing. This anomalous behavior is not seen in comparison atmospheric
O2. Center Disk results: Both Ca II K and C I 538 nm intensities are constant,
indicating that the basal quiet atmosphere is unaffected by cycle magnetism
within our observational error. A lower limit to the Ca II K central intensity
atmosphere is 0.040. The wavelength of Ca II K3 varies with the cycle by 6
milli-Angstroms, a factor of 2X over the full disk value. This may indicate the
predominance of radial motions at Center Disk. This is not an effect of motions
in plages since they are absent at Center Disk. This 11 y variation in the
center of chromospheric lines could complicate the radial velocity detection of
planets around solar-type stars. An appendix provides instructions for URL
access to both the raw and reduced data.Comment: 38 pages with 20 figures. Accepted for publication in The

Bounds Estimation for Trade Openness and Government Expenditure Nexus of ASEAN-4 Countries
Southeast Asia countries are encountering several challenges as they are moving towards the globalization and trade liberalization era. Due to that, government intervention is essential in ensuring that the economy is resilience against the severe implications of trade openness. Therefore, this study aims to examine the relationship between trade openness and government expenditure of ASEAN-4 countries using the Autoregressive Distributed Lag [ARDL] bounds testing approach that covers a sample period of annually data from 1974-2006. Empirical results indicate that there is an existence of a significant positive long-run linkage between trade openness and government expenditure of all the ASEAN-4 countries under study. This means that government intervention in an open economy is crucial as to cushion the risks associated with trade liberalization.ARDL, ASEAN-4, openness, government expenditure
