Due to the link between interpersonal violence and adolescent pregnancy, Healthy Teen Network recommends that supports for adolescents who have experienced interpersonal violence should balance strategies that build on and reinforce their strengths and resiliency with strategies focused on acknowledging and recovering from trauma and victimization

Temperature Effects on Development of Three Cereal Aphid Parasitoids (Hymenoptera: Aphidiidae)

Temperature is an important climatological variable that influences the biology and ecology of insects. Poor climatic adaptation can limit the effectiveness of parasitic insects in biological control. Two exotic parasites (Syrian Diaeretiella rapae (M\u27Intosh) and Argentinean Aphidius colemani Viereck) imported for biological control of the Russian wheat aphid, Diuraphis noxia (Mordvilko), and one native parasite (Diaeretiella rapae) were reared in growth chambers in three fluctuating temperature regimes with average daily temperatures of 12, 18, and 24°C. Estimates of temperature thresholds for immature development were 3.3, 3.5, and 2.8°C, for Oklahoman D. rapae, Syrian D. rapae, and A. colemani, respectively. Estimates of thermal require- ments for development from egg to adult were 297, 278, and 301 degree-days for the three parasitoids. Dry weights of adults reared in different fluctuating temperature regimes did not differ significantly among sexes, but adults from regimes with low average temperatures of 12 and 18°C had significantly greater weights than those reared in a regime with an average temperature of 24°C. Results suggest that developmental response to temperature will not limit the effectiveness of the exotic parasites in biological control

The USSR and The GDR: Mutual Collapse

The Soviet Union had a number of satellite states, where communist puppet regimes were propped up in order to serve the interests of the Soviet Union. The Eastern Bloc was established with the goal of spreading the Soviet style of government, regardless of its unpopularity. The only reason that the communist regimes in these states were able to survive was because of Soviet support. This meant that the decline of the Soviet Union and the individual bloc states fed into each other. This is examined through the case of the German Democratic Republic and its relations with the Soviet Union

    Oral History: Memories Transcribed

Oral history began as oral tradition, the passing down of information from generation to generation. Now we commit most everything to paper. However, there are still places in the world where the passing of history is truly an oral tradition. Within our own families, oral tradition is the main way most of us retain our favorite family stories. Unfortunately, by not recording these stories, they frequently undergo changes as they pass from parent to child, also, with the advent of technology and the decline of the extended family, these family stories are becoming lost

Improving The Mathematic Critical And Creative Thinking Skills In Grade 10th SMA Negeri 1 Kasihan Bantul On Mathematics Learning Through Problem-Based Learning

This research aims to describe: (1) implementation of the PBL that improve the mathematic critical and creative thinking skills and (2) improvement the mathematic critical and creative thinking skills of students with PBL. The research is Classroom Action-Research, which is consisted of two cycles. The research was conducted in SMA Negeri 1 Kasihan Bantul in August until December 2010. The subjects were all of the students in class X D which consist of 33 students. The data was obtained from observation sheet, field notes, documentation, interviews, and tests of critical and creative thinking skills in mathematics learning. The data validation has done by triangulation. The results shows that the implementation of the PBL which can improve the students’ mathematics critical and creative thinking skills consist of four steps: (1) engagement, (2) inquiry and investigation, (3) performance, and (4) debriefing. Keyword: critical thinking, creative thinking, problem based learnin
