The role of Mexico in the transpacific region: a hinge between America and Asia-Pacific

Abstract

Actualmente México vive una coyuntura de creciente incertidumbre, agudizada por la llegada del presidente Trump a la Casa Blanca y el replanteo de sus relaciones bilaterales. En otro orden de cosas, estructuralmente México se posiciona geoestratégicamente tanto en su fuerte interdependencia con los Estados Unidos (más allá del TLCAN-NAFTA), como reenganchándose con la región latinoamericana, a través de la CELAC y la Alianza del Pacífico, y proyectándose en su inserción internacional hacia el Asia-Pacífico, sea a través del Trans- PacificPartnershipAgreement o de la misma Alianza del Pacífico. En este artículo se abordan estos cambios, retos y potencialidades y se examina el papel de bisagra que puede jugar México en relación con el resto de la región americana y Asia. This article addresses these changes, challenges and potentialities and examines the hinge role Mexico can play in relation to the rest of the American region and Asia. Finally, it concludes with some reflections by way of conclusions
