Exhaustion and violence in caregiving: Grandparenting among women in Hidalgo, Mexico

Abstract

En el presente artículo se analizan los desgastes y las violencias hacia las mujeres en su rol de abuelas cuidadoras de nietas y nietos en ausencia de madres y padres migrantes. Este estudio de caso con enfoque cualitativo, se desarrolló mediante entrevistas a 48 abuelas cuidadoras que viven en el noreste de Hidalgo, México, una región caracterizada por la pobreza rural y la exclusión social. This paper analyzes the burnout and violence against women in their role as grandmothers caring for granddaughters and grandsons in the absence of migrant mothers and fathers. This qualitative case study was developed through interviews with 48 grandmother caregivers living in the northeastern region of Hidalgo, Mexico. This area is characterized by rural poverty and social exclusion
