Improving Reading Fluency in Students with Low Reading ability through a Blended Learning Approach

Abstract

The main objective of this study is to explore the possibilities of using collaborative learning methods to improve reading fluency among students with reading difficulties. The study will consider various collaborative learning methods, their relevance to reading activities, and the impact they may have on students’ reading ability. In particular, it will examine how collaborative learning methods can help address challenges in Tamil language reading in a bilingual environment like Singapore. The results of this study will open up new avenues for improving the learning of students who struggle with reading. Teachers will be able to use collaborative learning strategies in their classrooms to gain effective approaches to improving students’ reading skills. Furthermore, this study will highlight the importance of reading instruction in the education system and the role of collaborative learning in the holistic development of students. This will be useful for Tamil language learners in the Singaporean educational environment as it will help them improve their language skills and academic success. Although previous studies have suggested that collaborative learning methods are effective in improving reading skills, much more needs to be done to understand which collaborative learning methods are most effective, especially for students who struggle with reading. Furthermore, there is little research on how collaborative learning can best be used to address the specific difficulties in Tamil reading in a bilingual environment like Singapore. This study attempts to fill this gap by examining the unique role of collaborative learning in improving the fluency of students who struggle with reading. In particular, it proposes to compare the effectiveness of different collaborative learning methods and to examine which methods are most suitable for which types of students
