El impacto socioambiental de la Batalla del Jarama

Abstract

En el sureste de la Comunidad de Madrid se produjo uno de los enfrentamientos más violentos y decisivos de la Guerra Civil Española: la Batalla del Jarama, librada en febrero de 1937. Este episodio bélico no sólo fue trascendental desde una perspectiva militar e histórica, sino que dejó una profunda huella en el territorio y en la memoria colectiva. El presente trabajo trata de analizar el impacto socioambiental y la relación bidireccional que se dio entre los soldados y el medio ambiente en el enfrentamiento, explorando tanto el impacto físico que se produjo sobre el entorno como la relación del soldado con el medio, así como el impacto psicológico que tuvo en él. El objetivo del trabajo consiste en desvelar, desde el prisma de la Historia Socioambiental, la relación tanto pasada como actual con el medio, ya sea desde un ángulo físico como inmaterial, abordando la dimensión simbólica y emocional resultante del conflicto, contribuyendo a una mayor comprensión del legado ambiental y humano que la guerra dejó tras de sí en el valle del Jarama.In the southeast of the Community of Madrid took place one of the most violent and decisive confrontations of the Spanish Civil War: the Battle of Jarama, fought in February 1937. This military episode was not only significant from a historical and strategic perspective, but also left a deep mark on the territory and on collective memory. The present work aims to analyze the socio-environmental impact and the bidirectional relationship established between the soldiers and the natural environment during the conflict. It explores both the physical damage inflicted on the landscape and the ways in which the soldiers interacted with their surroundings, including the psychological effects that nature and warfare had on them. The objective of this study is to uncover, from the perspective of Environmental History, the past and present relationship with the environment—both from a tangible and intangible point of view—while also addressing the symbolic and emotional dimensions that emerged from the conflict.
