Strukturierung des Freiwilligentourismus - eine neue Konzeptualisierung von Internationalen Freiwilligenarbeitstypen aus der Perspektive des Gastgebers

Abstract

International volunteering — particularly volunteer tourism — is often conceptualized in vague terms, especially from the perspective of host organizations. This study adopts a quantitative research approach to examine the characteristics of 108 host organizations through an online questionnaire. The analysis identified four distinct models of international volunteering in host organizations: Developed International Volunteering, Volunteer-funded International Volunteering, Knowledge/Skill-based International Volunteering, and Liberal International Volunteering. Developed International Volunteering involves well-established organizations based in developed countries, often with structured programs and long-standing operations. Volunteer-funded International Volunteering is characterized by high participation fees, short durations, and a commodified experience. Knowledge/Skill-based International Volunteering requires specific expertise from volunteers, and typically involves the longest service durations. In contrast, Liberal International Volunteering is the most flexible, with minimal fees, few entry requirements, and medium-length stays. These findings reveal meaningful distinctions among host organizations and contribute to a more nuanced understanding of international volunteering practices within the context of volunteer tourism.Internationale Freiwilligenarbeit - insbesondere Freiwilligentourismus - wird oft nur vage konzeptualisiert, insbesondere aus der Perspektive der Aufnahmeorganisationen. In dieser Studie wurde ein quantitativer Forschungsansatz gewählt, um die Merkmale von 108 Aufnahmeorganisationen anhand eines Online-Fragebogens zu untersuchen. Die Analyse ergab vier verschiedene Modelle der internationalen Freiwilligenarbeit in Aufnahmeorganisationen: Entwickelte internationale Freiwilligenarbeit, von Freiwilligen finanzierte internationale Freiwilligenarbeit, wissens- und kompetenzbasierte internationale Freiwilligenarbeit und liberale internationale Freiwilligenarbeit. Bei der entwickelten internationalen Freiwilligenarbeit handelt es sich um etablierte Organisationen mit Sitz in Industrieländern, die häufig über strukturierte Programme verfügen und seit langem tätig sind. Die von Freiwilligen finanzierte internationale Freiwilligenarbeit zeichnet sich durch hohe Teilnahmegebühren, kurze Dauer und eine kommerzielle Erfahrung aus. Die wissens- und kompetenzbasierte internationale Freiwilligenarbeit erfordert von den Freiwilligen spezifische Fachkenntnisse und ist in der Regel mit der längsten Einsatzdauer verbunden. Im Gegensatz dazu ist die liberale internationale Freiwilligenarbeit am flexibelsten, mit minimalen Gebühren, wenigen Zugangsvoraussetzungen und mittellangen Aufenthalten.
