El “Ángel del hogar” también pintaba: Trayectorias de artistas mujeres en Lima decimonónica

Abstract

In 19th century Lima, the mother-wife binomial propitiated the reorganization of the role and the spaces circulated by women. In this context, the “nineteenth-century plethora” arose, an invisible movement for much of the Peruvian art historiography. This research explores an essential question: how were the circuits and capital mechanisms of the literary and visual female artists of Lima constituted in the mid-nineteenth century? It is argued that social structures influenced their trajectories and struggles. At the same time, it highlights the need for incorporating a gender perspective sensitive to the situation of women in the field of cultural activities.En Lima decimonónica, el binomio madre-esposa propició una reorganización del rol y los espacios transitados por las mujeres. En este contexto, surge la “pléyade decimonónica”, movimiento invisibilizado en gran parte de la historiografía del arte peruano. Esta investigación parte de una pregunta esencial: ¿cómo se constituyeron los circuitos y mecanismos de capitales de las literatas y artistas plásticas limeñas a mediados del siglo XIX? Se sostiene que las estructuras sociales influyeron sus luchas y trayectorias, al mismo tiempo que se visibiliza la necesidad de incorporar una perspectiva de género sensible a la situación de las mujeres en las actividades culturales
