Abstract

La muerte es un fenómeno biológico, social, cultural e histórico, que ha sido ritualizada y estudiada a lo largo del tiempo desde diferentes perspectivas. Este artículo propone analizar la muerte a través de la fotografía post mortem, específicamente las imágenes capturadas entre 1922 y 1926 por Benjamín de la Calle. A partir de estas fotografías, se estudiará el contexto sociocultural de la época, explorando cómo se representaba visualmente la muerte. Además, se abordarán los conceptos de belleza y fealdad, evidenciando cómo las imágenes buscan embellecer al difunto y ocultar los signos visibles de la descomposición, reflejando así las tensiones entre lo estético y lo biológico.Death is a biological, social and cultural phenomenom that has been ritualized and studied a long the time from diferente perspectives.
