Abstract
小説家夏目漱石の文章を通して、明治・大正期の日本における紅茶と烏龍茶の位置付けを明らかにする。漱石はイギリスの紅茶文化の影響を受け、日本においても、日常生活で紅茶を喫していた。明治以降、烏龍茶は紅茶の一部とみなされるようになった。本論では、随筆・談話・書簡・断片・小説を中心に『漱石全集』(岩波書店)から紅茶・烏龍茶関連の文章を収集し、分析、考察する。これまでの先行研究の多くは、煎茶や抹茶の観点から漱石と茶を論じており、紅茶・烏龍茶については詳しく論じられていない。それらをまとめた後、まず漱石の紅茶に関する文章に焦点を当て、次に烏龍茶に焦点を当てる。本論の結論では、漱石の文章を通して、確実に烏龍茶は紅茶の一部として扱われたと明らかにした。
This paper clarifies the evaluation/status of black tea and oolong tea in Meiji- and Taisho-era Japan through the writings of Japanese novelist Natsume Soseki. Soseki was influenced by British tea culture and even drank black tea in his daily life in Japan. Since the Meiji period, oolong tea has been considered a type of black tea. In this paper, the quotations/texts are Soseki’s writings concerning black tea and oolong tea from collected essays, comments, letters and novels edited in the “Soseki Zenshu” (Iwanami Shoten). They are analyzed to consider how black tea and oolong tea was enjoyed as a part of everyday life in the Meiji and Taisho eras. Most of the previous research has discussed Soseki and sencha or matcha. However, Soseki and black tea and oolong tea has not been discussed. After a summary of previous research in the field, this paper will first focus on Soseki’s writings on black tea and following that his writings on oolong tea.
