Quem produz o conhecimento geol?gico do Haiti?

Abstract

Geology has always been present since the beginning of the Universe and thanks to it we can retrace the history of the creation of the world. Because it is the science that studies the structure, composition and history of the Earth, it is of the utmost importance for a country like Haiti, which is located in Central America between a set of geological faults and whose dynamics are subordinated to the movement of the Caribbean and North American plates. As a result, the country is vulnerable to natural disasters, such as the earthquake that struck in 2010 and left hundreds dead,affecting the environment, infrastructure and its economy. However, there are few institutions promoting geological research in the country, and the majority of scientific articles on the subject are produced and published by foreign universities and research institutions. This doesn't mean that there aren't universities and research institutions and researchers in Haiti who are concerned with geological issues. However, although there are some works produced by Haitian geologists, they are published in other languages. For this reason, it is necessary to map these institutions and those who produce geological knowledge in Haiti. To this end, research was carried out in the Google Scholar database, with a time frame for 2024, using the keywords ?haiti? and ?geology? to survey research related to the geological knowledge of Haiti. After reading the summaries of all 639 articles, only 35 remained. These 35 articles were tabulated in an Excel spreadsheet with the following columns:title of articles, authors, institutions, area of Geology, journal in which the article was published. After this first tabulation, a new spreadsheet was generated with the following columns: institutions to which the authors of the articles are linked, the country of these institutions and how many times these institutions appeared in the35 articles. The USA and France are the countries that produce the most knowledge about the geology of Haiti. This work presented an overview of geological researchon Haiti, mainly answering the question: who produces the geological knowledge of Haiti?Desde o surgimento do Universo at? os dias de hoje a Geologia sempre esteve presente e gra?as a ela podemos retra?ar a hist?ria da cria??o do mundo. Por ela ser a ci?ncia que estuda a estrutura, a composi??o e a hist?ria da Terra, ela passa a ter uma import?ncia capital para um pa?s como o Haiti que est? localizado na Am?rica Central e que se encontra situado entre um conjunto de falhas geol?gicas e que tem sua din?mica subordinada ao movimento das placas Caribenha e Norte- Americana. Devido a isso, o pa?s se encontra vulner?vel diante de desastres naturais, como por exemplo, o terremoto que ocorreu em 2010 e que deixou centenas de mortos, afetando meio ambiente, infraestrutura e a sua economia. No entanto, poucas s?o as institui??es que promovem pesquisas geol?gicas no pa?s, a maioria dos artigos cient?ficos oriundos de pesquisas sobre tal assunto s?o produzidos e publicados por universidades e institui??es de pesquisa estrangeiras e s?o produzidas igualmente por pesquisadores estrangeiros. N?o significa que n?o haja universidades e institui??es de pesquisas e pesquisadores no Haiti que se preocupam com temas geol?gicos. No entanto, ainda que haja alguns trabalhos produzidos por ge?logos haitianos, eles s?o publicados em outras l?nguas. Por isso, um mapeamento dessas institui??es de quem produz o conhecimento geol?gico do Haiti ? necess?rio. Para tanto, foi realizada pesquisa na base de dados Google Acad?mico, com recorte temporal para 2024, usando palavras-chaves ?haiti? and ?geology? para fazer um levantamento das pesquisas relacionadas ao conhecimento geol?gico do Haiti. Ap?s a leitura dos resumos de todos os 639 artigos, restaram somente 35. Esses 35 artigos foram tabulados em uma planilha Excel com as seguintes colunas: t?tulo dos artigos, autores, institui??es, ?rea da Geologia, peri?dico no qual o artigo foi publicado. Ap?s essa primeira tabula??o foi gerada uma nova planilha com as seguintes colunas: institui??es nos quais os autores dos artigos est?o vinculados, pa?s dessas institui??es e quantas vezes essas institui??es apareceram nos 35 artigos. EUA e Fran?a s?o os pa?ses que mais produzem conhecimentos acerca da Geologia do Haiti. Esse trabalho apresentou um panorama das pesquisas geol?gicas sobre o Haiti, respondendo, principalmente, ? pergunta: quem produz o conhecimento geol?gico do Haiti
