The Relationship between the Border Checkpoints in the Kai Region and the Regional Economy during the Sengoku Period

Abstract

Currently, there are few studies about the checkpoints in the Kai region that focus on their relationship with the people and the local economy. Therefore, I investigated historical documents regarding the stance and the income by the checkpoints of the localize lords who managed the checkpoints. In addition, I investigated the quantity and type of goods passing through the border checkpoints by the transit passes. Based on these surveys, I revealed how much of the profits from the checkpoint tolls was returned to the local community and what impact the checkpoints had logistics.departmental bulletin pape
